  • TAN Confession book

I bought this inexpensive TAN little book years ago and even though I have many other examination of conscience, this is the one I like the most. Besides, since it's a very small book, I can carry it around I have it almost always on me.

  • I have used the manual Jonah mentioned above.  I have found others on the internet that are very good as well.

http://www.catholicapologetics.info/thechurch/sacraments/adults.htm  This one is very detailed.

I have found that the most detailed one of all on the net is this one.  http://www.trosch.org/chu/examcons.html#02  I'm not sure if the priest who compiled it is correct on everything.  For instance the section on abstaining from marital relations during a certain time of of woman's cycle.  I'm certain that St. Thomas said regarding this issue that if a husband asks for his marital rights during this time, the wife is bound to oblige.  Other than that it's a really good examination of conscience.  Also there have been criticisms about some of the positions this priest held (he's deceased).  He maintained that it was justifiable homicide to kill abortion providers.
My conscience compels me to make this disclaimer lest God judges me partly culpable for the errors and heresy promoted on this forum... For the record I support neither Sedevacantism or the SSPX.  I do not define myself as either a traditionalist or Novus

  • I picked up a copy of "Confession" a new pamphlet from Angelus Press.  From their site:

"Newly available from Angelus Press, this comprehensive book will help Catholics understand and prepare for the great sacrament of Penance. Too many Catholics simply don't spend time thinking or learning about Confession, or else, they don't spend enough time in the right way to truly prepare for it. This simple booklet will change that. Contains:

A Catechism on the Sacrament of Penance
A General, Short Examination of Conscience
A More Comprehensive Examination Specifically for Adults

The last section is actually a month-by-month examination to help adults work on a specific virtue and root out a specific vice for each month of the year. It is sure to help you focus your efforts at spiritual growth!"

  • I still use the one t hat is in the missal I had as a teenager.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

Please forgive me for having provided the above two links.  Both of those sites contain information that is way too problematical.  I should have been more prudent and looked both over a lot more carefully before posting the links.  I still highly recommend Rev. Donald F. Miller, C.SS.R's examination of conscience for adults because it is one of the most through and detailed ones I have ever found.  However, we don't need catholicapologetics.info.  Just type fathers name in the search bar and and you'll be able to find a copy of it.

Even though catholicapologetics.info contains a lot information that is very valuable, there are many articles on this website that are very dangerous and misleading.  Particularly the sections that deal with the Second Vatican Council, the new Mass, EWTN, Opus Dei and the New Rite of Ordination. One must keep in mind that these articles, even if written by members of the clergy, are expressing their own private opinions and interpretations and as such are not binding on anyone.  My biggest concern is the scandal these articles may cause some, particularly those who are new to the faith, considering converting to the faith or are highly impressionable.  In a saner age, some of these articles most likely would have been placed on the index of prohibited books.  As a result, some people may very well erroneously come to the conclusion that the visible Church established by Christ which is situated in Rome, has lost the faith and that many will abandon the Church.  The very Church outside of which there is no salvation.

The second link for Fr. David Trosch's examination of conscience no longer works.  THANK GOD!!!  Even though his examination of conscience was very through, it did contain at least one error which I pointed out.  I extremely embarrassed now that I even posted a link to anything written by him.  The man promoted so many weird beliefs and frankly sinful accusations against even the popes, it's not funny.  Here is just a small sample:

    Quote
Father David Trosch is inducted into our Hall of Shame due to his rebellion against the Church and causing scandal among the Faithful.

Father Trosch is a Roman Catholic priest who disagrees with most bishops and priests. Archbishop Oscar H. Lipscomb has removed his faculties to act publicly in the name of the Church.

Father Trosch’s website sports topics such as:

    Bent Cross
    inverted Cross
    Paul VI a satanist
    John Paul II a murderer
    John XXIII, 33rd Degree Mason
crafty LEGAL pope, but not moral pope

    Once again my deepest apologies.
