  • I notice there's quite a bit of variety in how Trads dress.

Some are into dressing "up", dressing well, etc. while others are completely comfortable in T-shirt and jeans (unfortunately, this doesn't exclude females *sigh*)

I suppose it's a question of culture -- I mean the culture you received from your family. That is, how you were raised, what you grew up with, what you were taught is "normal" or "correct".

You can see this vividly at Mass. On Sunday, you wear your Sunday Best, right?

I've seen everything from a nice suit jacket & dress pants, all the way down to polo shirts and golf shirts. Heck, I've even seen T-shirts, though these might have been young people who aren't "regulars".

And isn't it interesting that women are supposed to show off their legs during Mass, though a man wouldn't dream of wearing shorts? For that matter, even in my dreams I don't appear at Mass with bare feet, but women wear flip-flops and other sandals with bare feet *all the time*, especially in hotter climates like Texas.

For that matter, I've often heard it said that it's immodest for men to show their arms. But if that were true, it would be even worse for the women to show off 97% of their arm with their various dresses, etc.

When a man wears a short-sleeve button-down shirt with a tie, for example, that sleeve goes down to the elbow. Women's short sleeves are measured in centimeters that you can count on one hand.

I just find it interesting how different standards of dress are for women vs. men. Would a man wear wild colors to the office, or have ANY of his legs or upper arms showing? Never. But women's clothes are SO varied. I guess it's a testament to how different women are from men, and how vanity tugs at woman's nature much more strongly.

  • I wear shirt, tie, dress pants, and trilby to Holy Mass (I take off the trilby in the chapel, of course). During the week, I wear dress shirt and dress pants for work. When going out for a casual appointment (which is rare; I'm a high-functioning autistic), I usually wear jeans and a shirt, but no T-shirts. I almost always wear the trilby, though. Where's the "trilby" emoticon?
"This principle is most certain: The non-Christian cannot in any way be Pope. The reason for this is that he cannot be head of what he is not a member. Now, he who is not a Christian is not a member of the Church, and a manifest heretic is not a Christian, as is clearly taught by St. Cyprian, St. Athanasius, St. Augustine, St. Jerome, and others. Therefore, the manifest heretic cannot be Pope." -- St. Robert Bellarmine

  • I wear a tie and jacket and dress pants when I mow the lawn.  Didn't Saint Therese's father do this when he labored or was this wrongly depicted in the movie?

It should be simple, but God for some reason gave us free-will :o)  This means, or so it seems, we are all but guaranteed to get it wrong.

Otherwise women would wear long sleeves and be covered to the neck, and down to the ankles in skirt or dress which would not be form fitting, all the time.

Men, would not wear sneakers or jeans, or tee-shirts.  They would be in tie and jacket, certainly in Mass, but also all the time.  Unless doing a job that precluded this.  They could ease up a bit around the house here and there I suppose but not to the scandal of their little ones.

But again, that free-will thing gets in the way a bit.
"I receive Thee, redeeming Prince of my soul. Out of love for Thee have I studied, watched through many nights, and exerted myself: Thee did I preach and teach. I have never said aught against Thee. Nor do I persist stubbornly in my views. If I have ever expressed myself erroneously on this Sacrament, I submit to the judgement of the Holy Roman Church, in obedience of which I now part from this world." It's similar to a fedora but has a narrower brim all around.

Thank you :o)  I get some looks but no one has asked me about it.  As the leader of the family I like to think that I would not ask my wife and daughters to do something I wouldn't do, wearing dresses excepted.

  • When at work, I generally wear business semi-formal: trousers, shirt (the presence or absence of a tie depends on the shirt) and shoes.  The exception is casual Fridays when I tend to wear denims (usually carpenter-cut), some kind of tee, usually a hoodie of some kind, and trainers.  When assisting at Mass, I always wear a three-piece suit (I learned to love waistcoats from my grandfather, who always wore them around his home).  I have a Fedora that I only occasionally wear because I'm rarely going to be out of doors long enough to warrant it.
