I think a marriage is already in trouble before Facebook can be blamed.

Before there was FB there was MySpace, cellphones, then chatrooms, newspapers, workplaces.

Someone who is going to cheat will find a way. It's just the manner of them getting caught perhaps is different.

I never understood this accusation. You can completely use the privacy mode and no information can be derived from your FB page. If anyone is idiot enough (and PLENTY are!) to post on a completely open page they deserve all the headaches they get.

Facebook is simply a networking and communication tool.

I mean if you think about how many people "hook-up" after going to a bar, club, party, or some social event, Facebook doesn't really play any kind of role in those encounters except maybe providing a way for those individuals to keep in touch afterward.

Define "Occasions of Sin"

Facebook could very well be considered an occasion of sin - in that - it tempts the weak. Some people who would never think of contacting an old flame face to face or think of going to a bar suddenly have that means at their disposal and may even go through with it innocently enough - then find themselves hooked on it and suddenly reality is a blur.

The Devil is subtle in his temptations.

Ultimately the onus is on the individual not to sin - but likewise - the prudent dont place themselves in occasions of sin if they have a propensity to sin in that regard.

In my view - Facebook can indeed be an Occasion of Sin. Just like an alcoholic shouldnt go sit in a bar without an intension to drink or a smoker go out on a smoke break with fellow workers not intending to smoke. If humans were not weak - then the devil would not tempt them like he does.

Being naiive to the dangers of Facebook doesnt make it safe. Saving ones soul is the most important thing we do. Not typing on facebook.

The biggest problem is not whether Joe Schmoe on the Internet can access your information. The point is that a giant corporation has access to all of that information and saves it forever. And that giant corporation has no qualms about shutting down your account or handing over all of tha information to the government.

If you want to contact an old flame, these days, Facebook is not necessary. You can just type their name into a search engine. In fact, if you want to look at whatever form of smut suits your fancy, the most depraved image that has ever popped into your imagination, that can be done today with the click of a mouse, yet here we all are on the computer.

The reality is people just feel cool railing against Facebook. It's sort of like those record geeks, the guys who hate CDs and think LPs are more "authentic" when in reality they just sound worse. What is the difference between a chat board like this and Facebook? The worst problem on both is the occasional immodest ad. Which, now that I think about it, I think you can remove, I have to look into that.

This sort of reasoning could be applied to all sorts of sins people commit, that they must have had a problem otherwise they wouldn't have been tempted. It really is irrelevant. Catholics believe marriage is indissoluble, so whether or not a marriage was "already in trouble" is a moot point.

There are many acquaintances people would never likely see again without facebook or things like it.

The little friends box tends to show who pays attention to your profile.

All I can say is if I were married the only social networking allowed would be a joint account used with one spouse looking over the shoulder of the other. The internet is a serious enough threat to marriage that I think husband and wife should have tools to be able to see everything that's done online by their spouse.

I would imagine there are many adulteresses who don't intend to commit adultery but end up doing so. I don't really like the term "cheat" because it is used in the context of so-called "serial monogamy" way too often.

No, there is no doubt in my mind that facebook is the ideal tool for presenting temptations of this kind to people under the guise of being something innocent.

There are women who have added me on facebook I knew in high school, I am quite certain they never would have contacted me otherwise. I'm not suggesting any bad motivations. And yes, the suggested friends list tends to show girls who had an interest in me, or in whom I had an interest. (and they knew it)

There is absolutely no comparison between Traditional Catholic forums and Facebook. There is more to FB than just their immoral adds. They defend ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity. Most of what is posted on there is stupid and takes away from time that could be given to God. Ultimately, I find Facebook to be a major waste of time. Others are free to use it if they wish, but it's not something I would recommend.

As someone who posts on two Traditional Catholic forums, and as someone who also owns his own Trad forum, I will gladly stick to that and avoid Facebook.

Privacy mode will protect you from unknowns viewing your page, but it won't protect you from facebook itself tracing, mining, associating, and sharing your details and activities with, for example, the feds. That is the real privacy issue, not strangers viewing your page.
