Evangelizing ...Novus Ordo people

  • I was looking on YouTube for a way to wear a lovely gifted mantilla that, strangely, being a "luxury model", was FLYING off my head. (Most of what I have are humble, inexpensive ones that are "rough" enough to grab the hair, or long enough to reach my waist and not be a problem).

    This isn't about mantillas, though: this is about evangelizing! As a "cradle Trad" who was kept from Montini's new order (THANK GOD!), our family has invited people to Mass, and strangely had more success with Baptists and even "cradle atheists" than with our own fellow "NO church Catholics" (though we've maintained friendships with local NO Catholics).

    If you are like us, not well-versed in current-day "Catholism", and have had rather shocking experiences at "surprise services" that you believed were "traditional" (advertised as such, in a city you were visiting), and ended up running from the service after being attacked with the "peace", or having ..."strange priests" (not acting the way you expect, or not dressing appropriately, &c).

    While looking for a video about how to wear expensive mantillas in stick straight hair (tiny bobby pin across the top, by the way), I found a MOST EXCELLENT young woman in (I'd guess) her 20s who was coming from the "other side": she'd grown up NO mass, went to college, was exposed to the Mass (pre-Vatican II), and while I'd happened upon her mantilla tips, it became clear she is trying to convert others FROM NO mass to Mass. She's 100% Latin Mass now, and took it upon herself to explain to former-fellow NOs her journey from Montini's new church to the traditional Mass!

    I'm watching some now, as I didn't know NO Catholics felt such disdain for the "Trad Mass". She's very clear that SHE was "turned off"by the "TLM" (her first experience in college, hoping to help herself learn Latin, and finding it completely foreign). In some videos she describes why she Converted, and is VERY plain-spoken about the NO not being "the Mass in Latin", but rather her discovery that Mass and post-VatII mass have nothing in common

    is part 1 of 2, "What is Latin Mass — Intro to Latin Mass", and she's very good and comfortable speaking about her Conversion from NO Mass to Mass.

    What I found most interesting was indeed, how FOREIGN the Mass is to cradle NOs. It might be offensive in parts — she's not, but her words might be because it's stuff WE know, and I think we "trads" expect all Catholics to know, but they don't! She's plain-spoken, young, vibrant, and LOVES Mass, and uses (I think) the 1500s missal reprinted in the 1930s to describe (1) how the post-VatII "service" is completely different in spirit from Mass, (2) what Mass actually IS, (3) what a cradle-NO-catholic will find strange/shocking, (4) how to use the Missal, and ends that video hinting that Vatican II completely changed the spirit of Mass, and why she went back though she understood nothing of it, and why she's "Converted" entirely to Mass.

    (And her veiling video is humourous; I find her very bubbly like myself, and she's NOT trying to preach; she is refreshingly straight-forward in a very vernacular, layperson way. Very enlightening for ME, too, as she's not trying to convert non-Catholics, but New Order Catholics. Very personable from what I've seen so far.)

    I'm going to use her channel, "Classic Catholic" on YouTube, hopefully to to Convert my NO friends. Because we should be evangelizing, but I never quite understood the GIANT CHASM between "cradle NOs" and "Latin Mass". Her videos are helping ME understand more fully why the "cradle NOs" are so obstinate-seeming about Mass (Latin); a thing I admittedly did not understand.

    Note, I haven't watched enough to know about her particulars, like how she feels about Rome, the Vatican, and other "issues" — I hope she doesn't bring them up, actually. Because she's right, if her experiences are common: the NO Catholics indeed practice a more-self-centered, less Church/Sacrifice-centered religion entirely. And that needs to be known by the NO Catholics who have never attended Mass as WE know it.

    Sorry so long: couldn't wait to share. She may not know it (and I don't have an account to tell her), but to me, she's almost like a "Rosetta stone" for traditional Catholics and the new generation of Catholics who have never been to Mass [as we know it]. It's clear she retains Christian charity and good will toward the Novos Ordo Faithful, but wants them to re-examine their Faith. She speaks as a layperson, so I think men could get a LOT from her about what NO Catholics have been taught, and how they think, and HOPEFULLY how to reach out to them.

  • StCeciliasGirl, I really liked the video.

    By the way, I find the practical thing to do about keeping your mantilla in place is to attach it permanently to a simple headband of the metal or plastic type. I tacked my mantilla onto the top of the headband with a few stitches of the same colour as the mantilla. To put it on you let the mantilla fall over your face, put on the headband, then throw the mantilla over the top of your head. Easy peazy! You'll never have to think another thought about it and you can keep your mind on What is Happening, with no further distractions, at least from your mantilla.

  • Songbird, if you click "quote" on the OP, the link to the video comes up in lieu of the video itself, like this

    is part 1 of 2, "What is Latin Mass — Intro to Latin Mass"

    P.S. Oops the video came up! Now click quote on this post

  • ...and she's NOT trying to preach;
    Why do people always say this? As if preaching itself were something bad? I've seen it in countless movies. "I'm not trying to preach."
