  • I could hang out with Eric Dubay and get along *famously* with him, as long as Religion never came up. If we could avoid that topic, agree to disagree, he could be a very good friend.

Meanwhile, there are many Trads that I would have a hard time getting along with *most* of the time. Unless we were at Mass, Benediction, or Catechism class, there wouldn't be much we could find in common!  Maybe it's the lukewarm or superficial Catholics who are like this -- who don't allow the Faith to sink into themselves at all, instead keeping it at skin level?

Maybe it's a question of natural vs. supernatural virtues?

I once did software development work for a Jєωιѕн man. He prided himself on being fair -- and indeed he was. He didn't take 1 cent from me that was mine. He fired me completely out of the blue, and refused to give me a reason -- but he paid every cent he owed, without any arm-twisting.

Meanwhile, a fellow Trad (and friend) borrowed a couple thousand from me to buy a family vehicle -- and then decided to cut off the friendship, rather than pay back the money. No, there's not "another side" to the story. He didn't even ask me for more time, I wasn't being pushy at all, etc. He just ghosted me, and when I asked nicely when he was going to make a payment on the debt, his first words were, "I'm done. Friendship over."  Our 2 (large) families were *friends* with each other. Not just on Sundays, but doing tons of socializing together: staying at our house, working on projects, etc. for several years. Amazing how he would throw all that away for $2K. He probably stole a large gift card someone donated to the chapel as well -- I didn't suspect him at a time, because I didn't know he was a thief.

So you have this Jew who is very good at "Thou Shalt Not Steal" and a Trad (who converted about 25 years before I met him) who is horrible at that commandment -- as well as the 8th Commandment, for what it's worth.

Just goes to show you that natural virtue is independent of having the Faith. It's a separate thing. Muslims are often great at Temperance (avoiding alcohol, smoking, drugs).

  • How many reject or mostly reject make-up (which is more ideal) -- and social media (giving their ear to objectively stupid women online)? How many are into being domestic, traditional gender roles, and practicing feminine arts/hobbies?
If I had to give a percentage. There are lots of women in sede/SSPX/Trad Cath land that wouldn't really make good wives.
There is a bad attitude epidemic among young women today. Vindictive and catty are traits trad cath women have as much as seculars in my opinion. Just in a different coat.

  • Yes, we have to remember a very crucial truth:

When you see a Trad, all you can guarantee is that they are typical "child of their age" plus they go to Mass once a week on Sunday. That's it. Anything beyond that is "case by case basis". You have to dig, you have to investigate.

And let the buyer beware! Act in haste, repent at leisure.

Hey Matthew, the fact that I have not been kicked off of CI by now is giving me some hope to trudge on in spite of being labeled a troll, by some.

Sorry, but I just couldn't resist a bit of humor: "I could hang out with Matthew -- don't know if the feeling would ever be mutual -- and get along *famously* with him, as long as Flat Earth and Lad, the Mega 47 thousand plus Poster Boy never came up. If we could avoid that, agree to disagree, he could be a very good friend."

  • I also know some Trads who are worse at the 6th Commandment -- in various ways -- than some non-Catholics and protestants.

The longer you've lived, the more such cases you've encountered. There are conservative Protestant (fundamentalist) women, for example, who are feminine, submit to their husbands completely, find their fulfillment in having large families, being a mother, and would never dream of cheating on their husbands. They wear dresses/skirts 24/7 and dress their daughters in feminine clothing as well.
All they are missing is the Faith!

Meanwhile, there are some Trad women who make their husbands "sleep on the couch" (source: my wife used to hear Mass from the Cry Room... it's a small room, the women talk, and you can't help but overhear things.)
OR, the many LIBERAL Trad women who wear the pants in their families (literally and figuratively), are extremely worldly, have worldly attitudes, etc.
All these women HAVE is the Faith. They're missing everything else!
