  • Hello all,

I am looking to propose to my girlfriend on the 6th of May. She lives in Paris and I live in London. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on where best to do this? I'm a new Catholic and so limited in my knowledge. She attends the SSPX mass there each week. Any thoughts?

    Paul

  • Paris: The Shrine of the Miraculous Medal

    About the Shrine:

Rue Du Bac street is located in the heart of Paris. As you look at the green gates at 140 Rue Du Bac, it does not really look like a shrine; however, it is here that we find the the magnificent Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. Masses generally take place throughout the day in various languages due to the many pilgrim groups from around the world that visit here. The regular Mass schedule is shown on their website (link shown below).

The incorrupt body of St. Catherine Laboure may be seen on the right hand side of the Chapel and is certainly one of the main attractions of the shrine--a sign from God that this was a person given special graces. Also, on the right hand side is the little blue chair where Our Lady sat during her apparition to St. Catherine. We're not sure why shed had to sit down, but she did.

On the left side of the Chapel is a reliquary holding the incorrupt body of St. Louise de Marillac, founder of the Daughters of Charity. Having two incorrupt bodies in one shrine is truly unique . A reliquary holding the incorrupt heart of St. Vincent de Paul is also located in the Chapel.

There is a small convent store where Miraculous Medals and rosaries are available for purchase. We haven't been there in a couple of years but in the past credit cards have not been accepted, nor of course, any foreign currency. So bring Euros if you plan to purchase any rosaries or other religious items.

    Getting There:
You can take the Metro to get to the shrine. Simply get off at the Sevres-Babylone station, which is located on Rue de Sevres, and then walk down a block to Rue du Bac.

Address:  140 Rue du Bac, 75007 Paris

    GPS coordinates:  48° 51' 3.3408'' N,  2° 19' 25.4100'' E

    Tel:  +33 1 49 54 78 88   Fax : +33 (0)1 49 54 78 89

email: chapelainrecteur@yahoo.fr   Note:  for pilgrimage groups use the contact information listed on their website rather than this email address.

PS You might need a pre-nuptial agreement, with a clause to avoid xSPX chapels after they do the deal with Francis.

"Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will trample it underfoot and deny it. Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days Our Lord Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor but a destroyer."  St. Francis of Assisi

  • Thanks for your suggestion. We went there a couple of months ago actually. It's a very special place and could be a great place. I'm trying to not make any mistakes when it comes to the act of asking. Does anyone have any advice or do's and don'ts?

    Many thanks
    Phil

Uh... are you Phil or Paul?

One doesn't usually get your own name wrong, unless it's not your name (because it's made-up, for example).

Guess how many times I've accidentally called myself Michael, or signed off as "Michael" on a post? Zero. I get called Michael by a lot of new acquaintances, however.

And why did you post this to the "Library" as well, where references and timeless docuмents are to be posted?

  • One thing to consider is if you want it to be very public or somewhat private.  I've found the chapel of the Miraculous Medal to be somewhat crowded - lots of people praying etc.  Not necessarily a bad thing - good that people are praying etc.  But just keep it in mind in your plans, as you will likely not be alone there.

A church around the corner that is usually much more quiet and not crowded is the one where the relics of St. Vincent de Paul are.

Sorry that was a typo, and I didn't mean to post in the other place. Sorry !

  • Good luck.

    Don't fornicate to celebrate.

Most of the marriages im aware of that "ended" were overthought, over planned in details.

I see your suspicions Matthew, I second them.  Phil and Paul are spelled completely differently, how could it be a typo?  The letters on the keyboard are nowhere near each other.

  • My name is Paul.

Ursus, thanks, you're right, I do tend to over plan/think things. It's just I didn't want to make a mistake.

    Thanks

  • Congratulations on finding a good Catholic bride to be!

In America, a decent young man would speak to the father of the bride to be and ask permission to marry.
