Since Matthew lives somewhere near this news, I thought that the forum may
like to know about it.  Perhaps Matthew knows some of the people involved.

The fact that the photo obviously shows the men before they were injured
and the article does not describe the injuries, they could be very bad.  Such
industrial accidents often leave victims dismembered or disfigured for life.

I don't really know what a "perf gun" is but it sounds dangerous.

Community Rallies To Support Men Injured In Oilfield Perf Gun Accident

Chandler residents Chris Barrios, left, and Lenard Crabb were injured in an oil field explosion. A benefit will be held to help raise funds for medical expensesJan. 31st, 2013

Communities across East Texas are rallying together to support William Lenard Crabb and Chris Barrios – both from Chandler - after the two were seriously injured in an oil field explosion Jan. 14.

A benefit lunch is being planned at Lago del Pino in Tyler for Saturday, Feb. 23 that will include a live band, silent auction and a raffle drawing.

The event will start at 2 p.m. For more information and to RSVP for the event, email benefitlinardchris@gmail.com, or visit the benefit Facebook page.

Several prizes will be included in the raffle and silent auction. Some of the prizes include free oil changes for a year, free gym memberships and free tanning.

Superior Pawn and Gun of Tyler is raffling off a new Savage Axis 30/06 gun with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting Crabb and Barrios. Tickets are three for $5 and can be purchased in-store or online at superiorgunandpawn.com

According to Atascosa County Sheriff’s office, Crabb, 30, and Barrios, 29, were in a trailer working on a perforating gun when the gun exploded. The explosion caused severe injuries to the men.

The explosion happened at a well located on a ranch near Charlotte, south of San Antonio. Both men are employed by J-W Wireline Co. and are Athens High School graduates.

“The safety of J-W Wireline Company’s employees and the community is a top priority of the company and we take that responsibility very seriously. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with our employees and their families at this time,” John A. Daniels, Business Development Manager of J-W Wireline, posted on the company’s website. The release added that both employees’ conditions continue to improve at San Antonio Military Medical Center. Crabb’s condition has been upgraded to critical but stable and Barrios remains in stable condition.

“ J- W Wireline Company’s management team continues to work with the appropriate authorities to perform a thorough investigation of the incident,” Daniels said. “Local operations are being suspended until the inspectors finish their review at the well site. As more information becomes available we will update our website www.jwwireline.com.”

Benefit accounts for Crabb and Barrios have been set up at Citizens National Bank in Chandler. Donations can be mailed to: Citizens National Bank, P.O. Box 127, Chandler, 75758. A note should be made in the memo line as to who the donation is for as the men have separate benefit accounts.

Work place injuries happen all the time. Why should it be in the news?

Certainly the oil companies wouldn't like the news to spread, because it
doesn't make them look good.  Deepwater Horizon would never have
made headlines if BP had anything to say about it.  That's for sure!

But if it doesn't get announced, then how would anyone know that there
is a "rally" going on?

Do you think that communities rally together by spreading the word at
the local bar, or by talking to neighbors across the back fence, or by posting a
message on an Internet forum?  Maybe in your world if you want to rally a
community you would confine your efforts to standing at a street corner in
town trying to hand out flyers, eh?  Sheesh ...........

I thought I saw someone saying you guys were near San Antonio.
My mistake.  Sorry.  Everything's big about Texas, right?

Charlotte's about 30 miles south and 5 miles west of San Anotone...

Remember the Alamo? ...

I guess you don't know newspapers are for.
It's not a newspaper's objective to get communities together, it's to report the news(that's a whole other topic, for sure). This may be a local news story since the community is thinly populated so the story could get reported. But that's not to say the Dallas Morning News has an obligation to report a random work injury 500 miles away to garner support for a rally.  If the fine folks of these lads' communities want to help the lads out, good for them! That's what advertising in the newspaper is for. That's the world I live in.

Sheesh

And the word above is a blasphemy. It derives from the injection used by the noncharitable for exclamatory emphasis(using our Lord's name in vain). Ergo, it is a violation of the 1st Commandment. Just thought you'd want to know that. Got this first hand from a traditional priest.
