I used to go through rosaries about every other month, then I switched, I've been using the same cord rosary for 30 years, and it has a long way to go.
Yeah, I was thinking maybe cord might be a good idea. I came across this one on Etsy that looks durable and nice, while still having beads and metal bits. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1182644629/wooden-beads-rosary-cord-rosary-handmade?ref=share_v4_lx
https://www.sistersofcarmel.com/custom-rosary-custom-rosaries/I have two of their cord Rosaries, carried daily for years. Also have given their Rosaries (cord) and chaplets (wire) as gifts, never had one break. https://www.sistersofcarmel.com/rosary-cases-rosary-pouches/Carrying them in a pouch also helps prevent unnecessary strain on the cord or wire.
While expensive, my paracord rosary from catholicwoodworker.com is the nicest and toughest I’ve seen.
