How One Couple Met, Fell in Love, and Met the Pope

    Jun 11th, 2014

Deanna, 24, and Michael, 24, had never dated before they meet each other on CatholicMatch. Michael had been discerning the priesthood for four years, and it seems God had placed a bubble around lovely Deanna saving her just for Michael. They were married on October 5, 2013, in her home parish ...

If he is discerning the priesthood, then why is he trying to hook with women on the internet ?  :smash-pc:

That is right, it must have been God at work. How sweet, they even got to meet the Pope.

If he was in discernment then it was discerned that he did not have a vocation to the priesthood. They are doing the right thing by getting married in the Church ratther than living in sin.

  • The quote given here doesn't really provide enough information for either conclusion.  When he sought a "match" is unclear.  Had he completed his discernment and determined he was not meant for the priesthood or did he determine he was not meant for the priesthood upon finding his "match"?

Frankly, given the way the article reads, I think the latter is more likely.

This would also coincide with how Novus Ordo seminaries are run today based on Father Oswalt's description that seminarians are "encouraged" to date women while in the seminary.  Father Oswalt went through a Novus Ordo seminary and was ordained a Novus Ordo priest until he discovered the fraud of the Novus Ordo and found tradition.  He has since been ordained in the traditional rite and works with the CMRI.  Last I heard, he pastors a CMRI parish in Colorado.  He also writes a regular column about the Novus Ordo from his viewpoint in The Four Marks.

  • If you bothered to read their story, which even an idiot could find on Google, you'll see that he spent 4 years in a seminary and then left and decided to try to find someone to marry.

But why would you bother to Google it?  Much better to climb onto that high-horse or yours and fantasize that a former seminarian was trawlling the internet and planning to be a "playa"

That way Trads look dumb and prone to rash judgement.

    ---
    Their story is here.

    ---

All things considered, they sound like a pretty solid couple with their heads screwed on.

I'm really not sure what attracts people like this to the modern church though.  Is it just cultural legacy?  Wanting to be part of something?  I just don't understand the zeal for modern Catholicism.  It's like licking your lips and getting excited about a bowl of cabbage soup.  Sure, I'd eat cabbage soup if I was starving, but I wouldn't ever pretend to enjoy it like a fillet steak or an Italian meatball sub washed down with a Czech beer or glass of decent wine.

As for Pope Francis blessing my marriage I think I'd avoid that.  Pope Paul VI touched my blond locks when I was 8 years old, as they carried him past me into a papal audience, and since adulthood I've been as bald as a coot.

    Rash judgment alert.

"had been discerning" means at some point in the past. It's very likely that he determined he didn't have a vocation (possibly after being told this by his spiritual director) and THEN returned to the world, wanted to get married, etc.

I am here to tell you you're WAY off base on this one.

Let's put it this way...here is MY story:

[Mater's real name] and Matthew had never dated before they meet each other on CatholicMatch. Matthew had been discerning the priesthood for three and a half years*, and it seems God had placed a bubble around lovely Mater saving her just for Matthew. They were married on April 23, 2005, at the SSPX chapel they attended...

*Until he was dismissed from the seminary by Fr. Le Roux for no particular reason -- at least no reason was given. Grades were excellent; no "internal forum" or spiritual issues. Perhaps he was too influenced by +Williamson?

That would be my guess.  You should have been more NO. ;-)

Not that it negates your point, but for the sake of accuracy, the original story meant they had never dated anyone, not just each other.

Just goes to show you how two people can read the same sentence, and take it a different way.

  • I met my husband through NO Catholic Singles group.
And before that we had dated other people including some real losers.
Both our parents had strong marriages.  No divorce except recently my sister, his sister and his late brother.  He also has a sister who is mercy sister .And he had brother who died
Of cancer who was a diocesan priest.

Lol.  should have said sister of no mercy.

Yes God was protecting us with Sacrament of Marriage. His brother married us

May God bless you and keep you

  • And way back I had wanted to enter convent no support from parents
Or diocese. Then evil came to our town.  Later I thought about it again and visited and stayed for a weekend.  And there
Was guitars and other red flags. Now my my beloved late
Mother in law was hoping for my husband would be a priest but he was
Farmer.  I miss my mother in law.  We used spend time praying
And chatting. She told me that it was a shame that I didn't receive a proper
Catholic education.  When she died the diocese made a circus and helped to destroy our family

Many of you were blessed to have the true Mass and teachings
Of the Catholic Church.  It is beautiful and holy that you married one another without dating
    anyone else.

At this time, I cry when I look at my two nieces especially
The 16 year old who has a boyfriend....   Now their both
In a pro gαy liberal theatre camp when they used to spend
A week with us on farm being normal little girls.

And I look at my sister and the many bad moms in my old hometown
And wonder. Why can't we have children??  They do.

May God bless you and keep you
