Hello, do you sin if you get a vulgar phrase in your head even if you are not willingly uttering it silently but it just pops in there? I am asking since this has been happening to me since elementary school. If this is a sin I don't know how I'd go about my life except prayer, work, go to mass, and sleep.
No, if you do not will it, but it just pops into your head unwillingly, there is no sin. In my own life, sometimes I say bad things to myself without thinking about it or willing it, and I used to confess it, but my old priest (SSPX) told me it probably was not a sin so now I don't worry about it. However I have found such unwanted thoughts help me stay humble and know that I am a worm as I figure that such things mean that I am corrupt and unworthy because if I were more perfect my heart and mind would not work in such a way.
