Traditionalism isn't threatened by Jansenism.

It isn't threatened by rigorism.

It is threatened by pharisaism.  Yes.

And pharisaism is allied with liberalism.  That's the reality.  The pharisaic trad, is more often than not, the liberal trad.

There is nothing in liberalism that prevents those with certain attitudes from it to be very controlling and manipulative people.

In fact in my experience its the more liberal trads who are the most manipulative.

It's a lot like the defense of drunkenness I've seen here.

These people attack tee-totalers, when tee-totaling isn't sinful, and then defend drunkenness.

No one defends drunkenness.  Drunkenness is a mortal sin. No Catholic could defend it without being heretical or at least scandalous.

You try to make it look like they defend drunkenness, or liberalism, or feminism, because that gives you an opportunity to fulminate, to push others down in an attempt to push yourself up.

Heretics always start out trying to find some way to stand out; and you are well on your way.

Because there's nothing at all to admire in the Third Reich?

They worked hard and had good organization.  So will Antichrist's army.

Quote from: Tele
Is it Jansenism to avoid immodestly dressed women?
Is it Jansenism to avoid immoral books, television programs, literature, etc?
Is it Jansenism to avoid immoral music, which includes most popular music?
Is it Jansensim to avoid time alone with a member of the opposite sex before marriage?

All these things can be found in any authentically Catholic moral theology book.

Please quote some authority on this. I know what McHugh and Callen say and when I quote it people have argued with it. Of course nobody believes one should not be avoiding immorality, but the question is what is immoral and how far do we have to go to avoid all situations where immorality can be encountered.

Santo Subito's original post was largely full of stereotypes and extremes.  You gotta just wonder exactly how many traditional Catholics Santo Subito actually knows.  Although following that list really isn't a bad idea.  People really spend very little time actually dancing.  And TV is largely garbage - damaging to the soul garbage - notwithstanding my beloved Turner Classic Movies.

As for this 'admiration of hitler' - I certainly haven't seen any of it.  Sure, some people post on forums but that could be a put on.  And it is curious how Stalin gets such a free ride.  And Lenin, he's considered a hero in the public school system.

Jane Austen books do have scheming, manipulative brats but don't they always lose out in the end?  I do remember reading Mansfield Park, Sense and Sensibility, Northanger Abbey (my LEAST favorite), and I stopped midway through Pride and Prejudice because I attending my first Traditional Latin Mass and my reading list INSTANTLY switched to traditional Roman Catholic books.

I do enjoy George Elliot's "Silas Marner" IMMENSELY!

And I'm a big fan of Joe E. Brown comedies.
