  • Do you believe most Traditional Catholics avoid communion if they are in the state of mortal sin?

With the small number of people I see in the confessional line at the Traditional Catholic Church I attend, I often wonder if most of these other Traditional Catholics go to confession during the Monday-Thursday masses. I also wonder if most other Traditional Catholics at the Church I attend  are just better at avoiding venial sins than I am. I have to go to confession at least 30 times a year to keep my venial sins under control so they don't eventually lead into mortal sin.

Do you believe most Traditional Catholics do not need to go to confession very often?

  • We have confessions during the week at my parish, so the line to the confessional shrank somewhat. Some people do stay in their pews, but I have to assume that mostly everyone there goes to confession every other day. My parish is a priory with a school so there's at least one priest there all the time.

I was surprised by how long the confessional lines were when I converted to Tradition. Back in the Novus Ordo very few people went to confession on the days they were made available. What's sad is that my old NO parish was many times bigger than the SSPX priory we attend now, so that meant the majority of the parishioners didn't confess on a regular basis. I must admit though, we didn't go any more often than anyone else there at the time.

  • I've wondered the same thing. I suppose it's that others are more zealous than I and make special trips for confession (which I should do), or perhaps sin less.

  • Well, I certainly need confession.  I go weekly, sometimes more.

  • We are a small chapel.  Each Sunday the line at the confessional wraps around.  Sometimes a priest hears confessions after Mass because there is not enough time.  I try not to guess who has been to confession or not but its easy to tell.  I'll say most of our members go to confession at least once a month, some go every week.  I am usually somewhere in between, but I feel like I could go every day sometimes.  If I don't have a chance to get to confession, I do not go to Communion.  I am not alone, though.

When I was NO, I went to confession about once every 4 or 5 months.  IF confession had been on Sunday before Mass, I probably would have gone more often.  It was not convenient to go to confession at 2:45 on Saturday afternoon.  (Yes I know how that sounds, but it is true.)  Of the times I went though, there were only ever 2 or 3 people there.  And we only had confession during that time period, unless otherwise requested.  Yet on Sunday there were at least 12 or 13 Eucharistic "ministers" between the two Sunday Masses....just saying.
