Discerning Omens

  • Good Day Brethren,

I am a parishioner of a Shrine to the Lady of Fatima and we do many devotional prayers to her and we also talk about the "Secrets of Fatima".
Is this acceptable within the Church?  I ask because I was confronted with the bible verse in Deuteronomy 18:10-12

"There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you."

Omens are messages from God and are not to be interpreted, so how does a prophet get to do it if it is prohibitive?
So is it acceptable for the Church to promote any of Mother Mary's Omens?
Thank you and Blessing to you all for your thoughts and replies.
Converts should shut up and listen. - Mark 79

  • It is just fine to talk about the secrets of Fatima. Most pious Catholics do that quite a bit, actually.

  • I think it means to fantasize about ambiguous omens, as opposed to straightforward messages
