InfiniteFaith,

It seems to you didn't ask the question in search of an answer, but you already had an answer in mind and wanted someone to back you up.

I'm sorry, I just don't think what you described in your OP was detraction.  I've read what both the Catholic Encyclopedia and the Baltimore Catechism have to say on the matter, and my opinion is that there was no detraction.  Feel free to disagree with me, but that is my opinion.

Yes, I had my own interpretation of what I thought detraction was before I created this thread. I brought it up to see what other people's interpretations were in hopes that they would confirm my own. Plus someone posted the things I said on this website on another website. I thought it was detraction.

I am well aware that some of the things I have said on this website have been offensive to some. Yet at the same time, I can't think of an instance off hand where I thought that I said something that was untruthful or sinful. Maybe a bit aggressive at times, and lacking charity, but thats about it.

I'm wondering if people who visit this website would spread the things that I have said  here to the congregation that I attend. Do you think that would be detraction?

In that case, you seem to be getting very close to do the very thing you are complaining about:  posting about someone else's Internet posts.

If you believe that what you have said in the past was not sinful, then that only increase my belief that what you described is not detraction.  Detraction must reveal the past sins of someone.  If you do not believe that your old posts are sinful, then someone is simply referring to an old thought of yours, not an old sin, and thus no detraction.

If what you have said here was not sinful, then no, it would not be detraction in my opinion, because no past sin of your was revealed.

Ok. I see your point to an extent. But what if you believed that what I had said is wrong, and you went and told people in my congregation about it who were unaware beforehand. Would that be detraction?

IF, we have at last come to the point when you admit that this is a personal issue, rather than an academic one. And you are concerned that the members of your congregation will learn of your past posts here. (As Dolores and you yourself have pointed out these have not been sinful).

Remember, many of us have sins in our past which could be found out/disclosed. Some of us have to "eat humble pie". Humble pie is nutritious fare.

Beware of human respect. It is a great danger to eternal salvation. We don't seem to hear much about this sin. You might like to read this:

Thanks for that. I will keep that in mind.
