A popular Youtube sketch maker called out Jesus name in exasperation and like I always do when that happens I called him out on it. This time I got a good response!
Here is the conversation. (Note: He didn't use the "F" word, I just referenced it as an example to get the point across.)
Me:
Love you guys but really, WHY BLASPHEME JESUS? Why not exclaim "F-ing Buddah!" or "F-ing Mohammed"???
Could there be something to that?
Personally, I'm offended by those who take my Lord's name in vain.
Offend somebody else for a refreshing change.
Him:
I agree. When I rewatch our videos I wish I hadn't. I didn't have a relationship with God or Jesus back then. I'm on the path now.
Me: Thanks! I appreciate your reply. God Bless!

I noticed that my mother has taken God’s name in vain. I corrected her more than once. Good job, Miser.
I remember saying omg. My beloved mother in law corrected me and taught me.

Thanks, Viva.
I just wanted to share because sometimes I'm tempted to not bother since "it won't do any good" or feel that "fear of man's opinion" embarrassment.
So this guys response was encouraging!
We Catholics have cowered way too much for way too long.

I've made the same correction as well. Its now oh my goodness, if anything. A good practice is to make reparation when you hear others blaspheme
My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love Thee! I ask pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love Thee.

When I hear blasphemy, I vocally turn it into a blessing, both to repair, and to correct the person. Jesus Christ...is The Name Above All Names, or, Is My Lord and Savior, or, Died for Our Sins.
Or G.D. ...is what He did to the fig tree when it bore no fruit, let that be a warning to us. Etc, you get the idea. It is a very direct way of addressing the blasphemy and the blasphemer without giving any room for conflict or retort. It always silences them. I do it all the time, automatic reaction at this point without missing a beat. It's a very successful approach.

If it is someone to whom I am close enough that humor will be well-received --- and possibly make them stop and think --- I always say "God's last name is not Damn", or "God does not damn [whatever it is that is being cursed]". Or if the Holy Name is spoken as a sign of surprise or to intensify something, I may say "are we having church now?".
There are some people who can't open their mouths without dropping the GD bomb.

This is great. I will use it. Thank you for sharing this ammunition.

True story. A couple years ago I was on the phone with a customer service lady and she asked for my answer to the security question I had set up---
Lady: "Who is your favorite historical person."
Me: "Jesus"
Lady: "You don't need to swear at me, Ma'am."
Me: "No....That's my answer to the security question. Jesus is my favorite historical person."
Lady: "Oh. Hahahaha. I'm sorry, Ma'am. I thought you were getting impatient and swearing at me."
Sigh...

Imagine--
Lady: Who is your favorite historical person?
Me: Mohammed
Lady: Okay, thank you.
Lady: Who is your favorite historical person?
Me: Buddha
Lady: Okay, thank you.
Lady: Who is your favorite historical person?
Me: Jesus
Lady: You don't need to swear at me Ma,am.
It's only because we tolerated it.

I always say "blessed be God" every time I heard the blasphemy, to a point that a friend of mine will recite "blessed be God" with me right after he curses.

Thank you for sharing, Miser. Yes, it was great that he replied in a positive way and admitted he was wrong. Let's hope and pray this Youtuber finds the True Faith!
Just a thought---how many videos on Youtube would be removed if taking the Lord's name in vain were a violation? It should be reported.

That's a great point!
I don't know why that didn't occur to me, conditioning I guess, but I will definitely do that from now on.
