  • I think articles like this should be approached in a prayerful, humble spirit -- not a defensive one.

People can make excuses for anything -- but risk is risk, and I think an honest person can admit to the dangers of most activities that involve our physical nature -- and at which prayer is difficult if not impossible. We need to be sober and watchful always, because our adversary the devil as a roaring lion prowls about, seeking whom he may devour...

...whom you must resist, steadfast in the Faith. (I'm quoting St. Peter, using the verse that is recited every night by monks, religious, seminarians, priests, etc. at Compline -- usually right before bed)

"Fratres, sobrii estote et vigilate, quia adversarius vester diabolus, tamquam leo rugiens, circuit quaerens quem devoret, cui resistite fortes in fide..."

  • We must also keep in mind that St. John Vianney was very well attacking the dancing in the taverns in Ars., but that does not mean only there. It would apply to any sort of dancing that can especially lead to sin like the kind where close physical contact is involved. I don't recall him saying that dancing is in and of itself evil, but that does not mean it can't ever become an occasion of sin. Let us also remember that he indeed does allude to several wise saints and a council.
"Non nobis, Domine, non nobis; sed nomini tuo da gloriam..." (Ps. 113:9)

  • Dancing is of the Devil.  :z-playing:
