Customs of Christendom
« on: January 17, 2022, 04:53:54 PM »
Our Lady of Good Success said that in our time many customs would be lost. I definitely see that. Even from when I was a young girl there were many more customs then what we we today.
Are there any customs that came from Christendom that you remember. I would like to revive some in our family.
I know one that I am going to implement when my children are at that age is courtship...like the way you saw it done in the Godfather movie.

Have children take turn reading the Bible.

Reading the story of the saint of the day. Every day you have a choice from a few different saints, for example you pick a saint that might be more attractive to children, or a saint from the Carmelite calendar, the Benedictine, etc. or the saint of the Mass of the day.
When my children were growing up, we would read from a book of the early martyrs. It was a TAN publication. They just loved it.

I guess I mean more social customs...maybe there is a book and maybe the dynamics of family life...I remember reading a historical book that spoke of children standing while the parents ate, although I wouldn't so that it shows the difference in how parents were respected compared to today where children are little  princes/ princesses and grow up disrespectful and spoiled.

You mean like 'Children should be seen and not heard'?
I've heard that said a few times.
