  • Over in the women's section there is a thread named Cultural Traditions.

I posted one for All Souls and was told that I should have posted it where the men could see it. So here goes.

Here is a lovely Catholic custom of treating at All Souls Day.
I remember reciting this as a nursery rhyme as a child but was not aware of its significance. The first version is simple for children to learn to sing and second version is very catchy and complex with parts. I hope you like it.

And here is the follow up which I thought was even more beautiful.

Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

Being Polish we've practised this custom all my life.  When my grandsons's were little we always took them with us to light the candles after dark on All Saints day so they could see the thousands of candles in our local cemetary.  We have a strong Polish community here.
Each year we need more candles as the number of dead keep growing.
It was a good way to teach them about the indulgences they could earn this week.
