My recent experience with my rosary has got me wondering about how to develop poverty of spirit so that I don't have to experience such a feeling of loss again. I'm very attached to my religious items, books, and things I've collected over the years. Other things not so much, but definitely the things listed above. How do I break this attachment and get to the point where I don't feel like my possessions "own" me emotionally (short of selling everything I have, and just living with the bare necessities)?

  • Catholic Simplicity.  Some Saints were only armed with one Rosary and a Bible.

Take your religious items and give them away as a way to spread the faith.
May God bless you and keep you

So not have any religious items at all? As for giving them away, I don't know anyone who would want them. The Catholics I know have their own religious items, and converts are few and far between around here. Though I did lend my catechism to a woman who was very interested in the Faith recently.

  • Think Catholic simplicity: keep a couple of rosaries, a missal and a douay-Rheims  bible.   Donate the rest of items to traditional Catholic homeschoolers co-op.  Donate to the local Legion of Mary.  Donate to your chapel’s library.  Leave the items in the back of the Church so some one can have them if they need them.
May God bless you and keep you
