Interesting story about Rabbi Zolli, the Chief Rabbi of Rome who converted during World War II:
"After the nαzι occupation of Rome, Zolli urged the Jєωιѕн community to disperse, but they refused. They accused him of overreacting because they had the assurance of the police that there would be no persecution of Italian Jews.
"When the nαzιs demanded fifty kilograms of gold to spare the lives of Jews in Rome, Rabbi Zolli only had thirty-five kilograms. He went to Pope Pius XII to ask for the rest, and the pope gave him the gold. The nαzιs did not honor their commitment, however, and in October 1943, they arrested the Jews in Rome and sent them to cσncєnтrαтισn cαмρs. Zolli had already gone into hiding with his wife and children."

But this same author says that the Jєωιѕн convert Dr. Edith Stein was "herded into the gas chamber" at Auschwitz, and I am calling bull...t. Stein may have died there, but it was not in a gas chamber.
