There are these videos I watch (on silent) ...more like skim... they play in a window pretty much all day because I get paid to do so. I have to look at them occasionally because they only play for 30 or 60 min and then I have to click to start another "series". Plus if any of the videos in the series is inaccessible, I have to manually click the next one. So I end up skimming some of the more interesting ones. It's kind of like walking into a living room where someone has the TV on. You're going to notice some things here and there.
Firstly, I am amazed at how dumb and liberal-slanted some of them are.
Anyhow, there is this one type that I believe must be a "thing" nowadays: they have a serious of actresses read quotes from actual womens' responses to a given question. The key point: the women are all in different careers making different salaries. The salary and job title are shown on the screen, followed by text of their answer to "the question" as an actress reads it.
Questions include:
"How do you splurge on yourself?"
"How much of your income do you spend on rent?"
"How often do you buy new clothes?"
etc.
Anyhow, the whole thing sounds pointless to me, probably because I possess both reason and common sense. However, these little exercises seem calculated to foment jealousy, class envy, and class warfare. We're supposed to feel sorry for the woman earning $29,000 a year who says, "I spend nothing on rent. I still live with my parents." Awww....poor baby! Bartenders should get paid way more so you can have a better life! Or... you can do something more valuable for society which will reward you more lucratively. Or you can stop trying to be "well off" on your own and get married. Even if your husband does all the earning, you are still better off because you can work to save money, cook home meals, make/mend clothes and other things, etc. while he is out earning.
Almost every single one, I just want to shout at the screen, "SO WHAT? That's what ______ career pays! You are earning precisely what you deserve, based on your skills. If you don't like it, change careers if you have the aptitude/ability/talent/training! If you can't, then deal with it and stop whining!"
