Not to be a communist, but if we are going to tell young couples that the wife should stay home to take care of the kids and to have as many children as God sends them, we should fight for them to have a living wage that is enough to support a large family on one income, instead of telling them to not complain that they don't make enough money. Otherwise we would be hypocrites and members of an elitist religion that is only for rich people. Just learn to code, bro!
Or honestly, they could move into a more rural part of the country and get out of big cities, if possible. There are some parts of the US that are reasonable in house price, safety AND tax.

Move to rural areas? We should be a universal religion, for those in the cities as well as the country. And as for moving to Texas, I think peripatetic living is destructive to the social fabric of society. I think family and friends should stay together. I would prefer families to live close to each other rather than the parents living in New York City and the five children moving to five different southern cities and then only ever seeing each other on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Not necessarily Texas. If your family is in New York City, then something like Long Island or eastern PA, for example. Close enough to family, but tenable on one income, which most big cities are not.

This a libertarian response, not a Catholic one.

No, it is quite Catholic.

Income inequality exists, just like every other kind of inequality exists on this earth. People have different IQ, talents, abilities, experience, training, etc. and this translates -- rightly so -- into different levels of material wealth.

Our Lord said, "The poor you will have always with you." and He wasn't against relieving them -- but He defended the spending of money on religion, worshiping God, etc. Because you can't eradicate poverty, any more than you can stop people from being stupid. As long as people will fall for brain-dead scams, walk into pawn shops like sheep to the slaughter, etc. you will have poor people. As long as you have free will (Shall I study, or watch this movie?) you will have people making poor decisions, and working lower-paying and dead-end jobs as a result.

Even if the world transitioned from fiat currency (which is constantly debased through inflation) and switched to sound money, the problem would still exist: the job of money is to match the producer with the consumer. But not all goods have the same value, and not all occupations are equally valued either. The guy with a wide knowledge of medicine, illnesses, and surgery is going to be paid more "whatever" than the guy who sweeps the floor. Anyone can sweep a floor. Only a few can become a doctor.

It has always been so, from time immemorial, and always will be.

Dreamers like Karl Marx preached an end to all private property to "remedy" this "injustice", but what came from him (Communism) turned out to be a sick joke -- replacing our capitalist masters with a new oligarchy at the top. (See the book "1984" how the Inner Party members living in luxury while the common man is quite poor) "All Animals are equal - but some are more equal than others." And what do you know? That's exactly how it was in Communist Russia. The Communist dream of "each gives according to his talents, each takes according to his needs" is a pipe dream in practice.

Read "Animal Farm". At the end, even the prime rule, "Four legs good, two legs bad" is broken by the pigs, who complete the circle by beginning to walk to two legs -- just like the human masters they ousted. A very good parable about Communism. If you haven't read it yet, you should.

George Orwell was a smart man.

Have you read Rerum Novarum? That speaks about this topic as well. Both rich and poor have a role to play in society, in God's plan. Both should submit themselves to God, His will, and His providence -- not succuмb to class envy.

Tom Woods Catholic. There will always be poor, I know but we should not make fun of them for their concerns, and we should try to make their lives better. Society seems like it is falling apart. Perhaps the answer is to ban usury or abolish the public schools. Perhaps silver backed currency would help. Or perhaps higher taxes on capital gains. Or perhaps higher taxes on high income people and lower taxes on the middle class. Or perhaps making corporations illegal. Or perhaps making it illegal for women to work in most jobs. I don't know. But most people are stupid and unable to adapt to the modern world. If there are not enough decent jobs for those idiots where they can make enough money to support a family, then none of them will marry and start families and they will become alcoholics or opiate addicts or meth heads and the women will have bastard children and live off of welfare.

Why does nearly everyone use contraception? Because they think they can not afford to have more children. Unless that is addressed nearly everyone including Catholics will use contraception. They are not really wicked people, they are just afraid of not being able to pay the bills. And because of that they damn themselves.

I think we are worse than Weimar already. Is it exciting to think about whether this mess will lead to a modern day Hitler or a modern day Stalin?
