Back in the mid-80s when I was in high school the guidance counselors had it right when they would speak to us. The message was: college is not for everyone.
By the early 90's the message was different; go to college, you have nothing to lose.
First of all, these kids are now being told college is a right, an entitlement. You are entitled to endless loans and freebies. When you cannot pay off the loan then it needs to be rewritten or forgiven. You are entitled to a free ride.
I worked two jobs and went to different colleges at the same time. I 100% paid for my degrees and came out debt free with never taking out a loan or taking money from my parents.
I also came out of high school with already 3 years experience in a trade.
Now that I look back, I wish I had never gone to college. I should have just gone into business in lock smithing .
I really hate these kids who sit on their butts all day playing video games just waiting to pack to go off to college and they think they do not have to lift a finger. Can't afford it ?- I will just sue mom.
The other day I was on a site for my old elementary school that has a program called "Bound for College" and all the kindergartners are enrolled in it. How stupid is that ?
Every household has cars in it. In California there are more cars than people. How come after 12 years of school kids do not know how to fix a car or do basic carpentry ?
