  • I was reading another thread and saw a comment by someone about how they thought even some of their close relatives were enemies of God. So it got me thinking. One thing I have run into since becoming a believer is that the world seems to want to drag you down. Other people seem to want to attack you more. They do things to irritate you and make you angry. etc. etc.

For me I haven't dealt with this so well. I can't help it causing me anger. I also realize that it is  a distraction to my faith. It makes it more difficult for me to focus on God, and has caused me to fall at times. I start thinking about killing these people, and I know that we should not desire to kill.

Do any of you deal with this sort of thing? Do any close relatives (brothers, sisters, etc) make things more difficult for you to live your Faith? How hard that must be if so. Especially if you have to live with them and see them on a daily basis.

  • What exactly are you talking about? Make it hard how?

And are you saying you feel like you want to REALLY murder them?

  • infinitefaith - Do you live with these family members?  And, if you do, do you have a room/private space to retreat to?

As for you, In general and simply put, your undesirable reactions(anger and irritation) will not go away unless you do penance(change your lifestyle).

The closer your relationship is to God, the easier it is to communicate with him.  A divine answer/solution to a problem/situation(daily relations with enemy family) will come to your aid faster, and sometimes without a prayer.  Trust me, desire and seek to obtain that.

And, I think that God uses the devils(these humans you speak of) to tell us we are not living a penitential/pious enough life.  We are to bear fruit unto life everlasting, and God prunes us to that end.  If we do not react properly, we can be cut off.  But, that is parable.  Just think of advancing in holiness(slow and steady).  Avoid going forward until you are sure you will never go back.  But, sometimes it is unavoidable.  All things are lawful, but not all things are advantageous.  Pray on that theme in your life.

WTF are you talking about? You people make me sick. I have never seen such stupid thinking in my life. I think I am through with you people. I am done. I get it it...you don't want me here. Case closed I am leaving.

A great deal of prudence is required in dealing with others. Sometimes God permits situations that annoy us so that we may grow in virtue. One thing that might help you when you lose your temper is to remember that your relatives who annoy you are redeemed by Christ and that we should pray for them. Everyone has a predominant fault. If anger is your fault then maybe you should talk about some of these situations in confesssion.

Well you're not here to read this but I wonder why you ask for input and then abuse someone who tries to help?  If this is how you respond to an anonymous poster I can see why you are having problems with real life people.  Get to the confessional and talk with a real priest in real time.

In reference to this type of problem, padre Pio said, "There are the saints and there are the people who make the saints."
