  • When I noticed this headline ("Cinderella Remake Criticised for Putting Clock Back"), I knew that this might be a good movie.  I did have my doubts though since it is a Disney movie and Disney has been on the cutting edge of political correctness.

I went to see the movie with my wife (we very rarely go to the movies because of the HEAVY PC messages sprinkled throughout just about every film).  Outside of the previews (geared towards children), which were sickeningly loud, gender-conscious and without merit of any kind, Cinderella was very well done, appropriate for all and if not a purely Catholic message, at least  a truly positive message.  In addition, there were none of the usual  discriminated  homos, feminists and Jєωs to be found anywhere even mentioned in the film! This is a TRUE rarity these days.

As I said the film was not only not offensive, but actually had a positive message.  Cinderella exhibited patience, grace, humility, hope and charity.

Here's the review that caught my attention . . .

  • My daughter and I saw the film opening weekend and liked it very much.  There is no mention of Faith and this version doesn't even have a scene of the wedding in a cathedral like the animated film.  But it is an old fashioned fairy tale with morals and values.  There is no comparison to any of the revisionist fairy tales of the last 10 years.

  • Hasn't anyone noticed yet that Cinderella dons immodest dress?

Ugh. I couldn't stand to read all of that article. I live in a different world than the writer of that article and when I go into that world I want to puke.

  • It might be nice that they didn't further change it from the 1950 version, but it's still true that the 1950 version omitted some of the best aspects of the story.

The opening paragraph of Grimm's version begins with the dying mother telling her daughter, "Dear child, be good and pious, and then the good God will always protect thee, and I will look down on thee from heaven and be near thee."

It was Cinderella's visits to the grave and prayers to her deceased mother which granted her the dress and shoes which was necessary to attend the ball.

No fairy godmother, no cat named Lucifer, and no mice (her heavenly-gifted assistants were birds in the original).

  • Even then they were giving praise to Lucifer.
