  • To participate in this fun thread, you must answer all four categories listed below; current and former members are limited to three each.

By "Current member" I just mean someone who posts regularly in the last year or so.

By "former member"  I just mean someone who no longer posts, or only does so rarely.

This is supposed to be a bit of Friday night fun!

    I'll get the ball rolling...

    Current Members: Ladislaus, 2Vermont, Matthew

Former Members: Telesphorus, Nihil Obstat, Pete Vere

Reason: They all make good counterpoints.

Bad Blood?: None; just get carried away in the heat of battle sometimes.

  • What's the question?

  • What's the question?
“Which CI members do/did you argue with most?”

CI Members You Argue With Most!
    Nobody.

I try to get people to spell out what they believe in every detail, then I give them my take. There is no arguing or hate.

The longest threads on CI are about sedevacantes, sede-doubtists vs. R&R - and I understand all the sides.

The 2nd longest topic is the salvation of non-Catholics, which is a huge error which 90+% of Catholics today believe. It is such an obvious error that all I have to do shine the light on it. (If the debate was about the harmless explicit baptism of desire of the catechumen, I do not think there would ever have been one thread on CI about it.)

So, what is there to argue about in a Catholic forum? Immodesty? Impurity? Nobody is going to argue about those, discussing them is like preaching to the choir.

Arguments are all about attachments, betrayals, and fueds. I have no attachments to anything but the Catholic Faith and truth.

  • I try not to keep track -- it would be too much like keeping a grudge, especially for someone of melancholic temperament (of which I am 1/2).
Melancholics tend to keep track of things.

Plus it's hard to even remember all the arguments I've had over something like 15 years on CathInfo.

I try to just discuss and keep it a good discussion, without spilling over into emotions and personal digs. I think I'm better about it now than I was, say, 10 years ago. You do get wiser as you get older. At least if that's something you happen to be striving for.

Plus a lot of topics I see as dead-ends now, and therefore boring in a way, compared to 10 or 15 years ago. So if I discuss these things now (e.g., sedevacantism) it's at a different level.

To answer Sean's question though -- I bet I've clashed with all the big cholerics on CI at least several times each.

  • Current: Pretty much everyone who gets involved in debate threads. Only major debator I think I haven't argued with at length is Ladislaus. Ones I clash with the most are you and Stubborn, probably.

Former: Croix. Or at least I hope he's former.

    Reason: I'm argumentative.

Bad Blood?: I hope not. Well except for Croix. Can't stand the guy.

  • Telesphorus, Nihil Obstat, Pete Vere

First I heard the above are former members.

The biggest former and finally expelled member that we had the most arguments with was POCHE.

Similar to you, I admit that I have a penchant for arguing online which is why I've been trying to squash that (or at least change how I argue).  I think my hackles tend to raise up when interacting with the anti-sedes (ie. not the non-sedes).

As for specific current members, I guess Sean, Stubborn, and Ladislaus stand out although I believe that there have also been a number of times when we have agreed. Lately, since I have not generally been dealing as much with the usual controversial topics, the arguing has somewhat subsided. And certain others I have tried to ignore.

I can't think of any former members that I tangled with here.  I know Croix and I had some difficulties due to his unfounded accusations, but he has since acted like a gentleman with me and I forgive him for whatever he has said to me in the past.

Although I don't know that I see them as "dead ends", I do find that tackling some of these topics here is a waste of time and energy.  As I get older, I just don't care to bother as much.

  • Nihil Obstat in the past- I don't think he cared much for my opinion on anything.
Clemens Maria. Not now, but earlier in the "COVID" outbreak, February and March. Not contentious, but insistent, on both of our parts.

  • I wonder if it pleases God to see Catholics arguing with each other just for the sake of arguing.  We live in strange times, and we argue because WE HAVE NO TRUE POPE, to unite us.
That is the consequence of having NO TRUE POPE.   There is the proof.

The early apostles did debate at times, that is our human nature but humility always won out in the end.  Is it then Pride that causes Catholics to call each other by labels instead of Roman Catholics.  Most of you remember that I am a Roman Catholic who embraces the sedevacantist position simply because it is logical and as each day goes by more and more obvious.

Today in my email, not knowing if this is true or not I read the following:  On January 30, 2021, Francis-Bergoglio laid down the gauntlet in no uncertain terms: if you deny the Vatican II Anti-council (1962-1965), with its heretical Newchurch and its New Order, you're out of his Newchurch. You must tow the Modernist line without compromise. Of course, real Catholics got out of the fake Newchurch long ago. They don't want anything to do with its Modernist heresy, its Marxist/Modernist Newpope, and its outright apostasy from the Catholic Faith.

    Please pray for my soul.

  • Thank you,   it was strange this morning, as usual sipping my coffee, speaking to God as I do each morning; I had an inspiration to check out Cathinfo, and so I did!
    Please pray for my soul.
