I agree that "Santa" is the evil psuedo-god of materialism. Also, parents are taught to lie to their children. Are they surprised when their children don't believe them about the existence of God?

Santa Claus is kind of based of St. Nicholas, though. In Dutch folklore, you have Sinterklaas who delivered gifts to children on his feast day, December 6th. If you can explain this to children and explain further that St. Nicholas was real, that's fine.

It is obvious that the OP has reservations, maybe even scruples about such issues. I'd rather not influence either way. Suffice to say that the Church has not spoken on these matters through her local ordinaries, so it is up to the parents to form good judgements, remembering that not one of us has any authority to bind another.

It is a tragedy that catholics are entertaining the santa claus false religious rites.  We should be distancing ourselves from it, but instead the opposite tends to happen.   I see it as harmful.

Agreed.

Santa Claus was a human invention to get people distracted from the real meaning of Christmas: the nativity of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As long as there are Christmas celebrations, Christians and even non Christians alike will remember Our Lord being born, but with the Santa propaganda in modern times, the attention is cleverly shifted.

Children should be told this reality since early age and the focus in the home should reside entirely on Baby Jesus, instead of Santa Claus.
