Chapel veil: black or white?

Does either color indicated a woman's marital status? I want to buy my wife a chapel veil for the birth of our first child. White? Black? Does it matter?

I heard once that single women were supposed to wear white veils and married women and widows were supposed to wear black veils. I am not sure, though. I may have heard wrong.

You could always go with a different colored veil, or headscarf.

Ps congrats!!!!

My mother taught me to wear a white mantilla as a virgin and varied colours once married.

Traditionally, white was worn by single women, and black by married women.  It really doesn't matter today- I've seen both wear either or even another color.

Personally, I prefer black, even though I am a young single woman.  My hair is dark and I really feel like I stand out too much in a white veil.  I don't mind looking like an Italian widow at all, regardless of what others think.  She could have a purple or striped one for all it matters.

Congratulations on your new little one!
