  • "By giving thanks at the beginning of his prayer, Christ gives us the example that when we pray, we should thank God for the benefits we have already received before asking for new ones (Commentary on John 11)." https://x.com/Aquinas_Quotes/status/1862149701396726242

41 They took therefore the stone away. And Jesus lifting up his eyes said: Father, I give thee thanks that thou hast heard me.  42 And I knew that thou hearest me always; but because of the people who stand about have I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.  43 When he had said these things, he cried with a loud voice: Lazarus, come forth.

  •  31 In the mean time the disciples prayed him, saying: Rabbi, eat.  32 But he said to them: I have meat to eat, which you know not.  33 The disciples therefore said one to another: Hath any man brought him to eat?  34 Jesus saith to them: My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, that I may perfect his work.  35 Do you not say, There are yet four months, and then the harvest cometh? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes, and see the countries; for they are white already to harvest.

36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life everlasting: that both he that soweth, and he that reapeth, may rejoice together.  37 For in this is the saying true: That it is one man that soweth, and it is another that reapeth.  38 I have sent you to reap that in which you did not labour: others have laboured, and you have entered into their labours. (John 4:31-36)

  • Squanto was a baptized Catholic. That he was present at Plymouth in the early 1600s and able to assist the struggling colony there is also due to the action of Catholic religious.

    Quote
Little is known about Tisquantum’s early life, but what is known is that he was abducted from his homeland as a slave by an Englishman, Thomas Hunt, in 1614. He ended up in Malaga, Spain, where a group of Franciscans bought him in order to free him. It is apparently thanks to these Franciscans that he received baptism and became Catholic, though it is not clear to what extent he was catechized and practiced his new faith.

    Quote
Tisquantum [...] years earlier, he had been lured, along with about two dozen other Wampanoag, onto a British ship bound for a slave market in Spain, according to James Seelye Jr and Shawn Selby, historians at Kent State University and authors of Shaping North America: From Exploration to the American Revolution. He escaped with the help of Catholic Friars and made his way to London, where he lived with John Slaney, treasurer of the Newfoundland Company, which had colonized Cuper’s Cove in Newfoundland in 1610. Tisquantum likely used this connection to depart England for home, working on a ship for Captain John Mason, the Newfoundland Colony’s governor. He then found passage on another ship that brought him south, where he eventually made his way back to Patuxet.

  • The first Thanksgiving in what later became the United States was a Catholic Mass of Thanksgiving in Saint Augustine, Florida on September 8, 1565. This Mass followed the military defeat of Huguenot heretics by Pedro Menendez de Aviles as sent by King Philip II of Spain. (Note: The linked article is a good read on history for homeschoolers.)

  • Te Deum

O God, we praise Thee, and acknowledge Thee to be the supreme Lord.
Everlasting Father, all the earth worships Thee.
All the Angels, the heavens and all angelic powers,
All the Cherubim and Seraphim, continuously cry to Thee:
Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Hosts!
Heaven and earth are full of the Majesty of Thy glory.
The glorious choir of the Apostles,
    The wonderful company of Prophets,
The white-robed army of Martyrs, praise Thee.
Holy Church throughout the world acknowledges Thee:
    The Father of infinite Majesty;
    Thy adorable, true and only Son;
Also the Holy Spirit, the Comforter.
O Christ, Thou art the King of glory!
Thou art the everlasting Son of the Father.
When Thou tookest it upon Thyself to deliver man,
Thou didst not disdain the Virgin's womb.
Having overcome the sting of death, Thou opened the Kingdom of Heaven to all believers.
Thou sittest at the right hand of God in the glory of the Father.
We believe that Thou willst come to be our Judge.
We, therefore, beg Thee to help Thy servants whom Thou hast redeemed with Thy Precious Blood.
Let them be numbered with Thy Saints in everlasting glory.

    V. Save Thy people, O Lord, and bless Thy inheritance!

    R. Govern them, and raise them up forever.

    V. Every day we thank Thee.

    R. And we praise Thy Name forever, yes, forever and ever.

    V. O Lord, deign to keep us from sin this day.

    R. Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us.

    V. Let Thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, for we have hoped in Thee.

    R. O Lord, in Thee I have hoped; let me never be put to shame.

    (Indulgence: 5 years)
Surge, Domine, et dissipentur inimici, et eos qui oderunt te, a facie tua!
St Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle!
