  • Here's a little tidbit for you.  Way back in 1982, Good Ole Ronnie Reagan named April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month.  Of course, over the past 30 years the idea has taken on a life of its own.  Almost every state has some form of Family Violence Prevention Council that is supported by your hard earned tax dollars.  These people co-ordinate with social workers, school teachers, doctors, nurses, daycare workers, etc, to identify children "at risk."

All over states this month, your local Family Violence Resource Center will be keeping you up to date and informed so you, too, can become "aware" of the various forms of abuse children face every day.

Catholic parents might want to keep themselves in check because, whether we know it or not, we are verbally abusing our children.

Here's a flyer put out by our local Family Violence Prevention Council:

    Positive Ways to See Children

Negative Description      Positive Description

    Bossy.................................Good Director, Natural Leader
    Clingy.................................Affectionate
    Compulsive...........................Efficient
    Conceited............................Good Self-Esteem
    Crabby................................Speaks Out Needs
    Dawdles...............................Easy Going
    Dependent............................Connected
    Domineering..........................Charismatic
    Fearful.................................Thoughtful/Careful
    Finicky Eater........................Future Gourmet/Discriminating
    Loud....................................Expressive
    Mean...................................Power Seeker
    Mouthy.................................Expressive
    Naughty............................Independent/Assertive/Persistent
    Nosey...................................High Curiosity
    Sneaky..................................Inventive
    Stubborn................................Persistent
    Talks Back...............................Courageous, Honest
    Tattletale................................Seeks Justice
    Too Talkative...........................Communicates
    Wants Attention.......................Speaks Out Need

Once, when I was 13, I went to school with a fat lip.  My father had confronted me regarding my inventiveness.  I responded to him merely in a courageous, honest, expressive, power seeking manner.  Clearly, he did not value my charisma or natural leadership abilities.

Oh, the things I might have accomplished if he had only this information from the Family Violence Prevention Council.

    Just saying.....

  • Your post is a keeper. I wish there were an option here to save posts.

    The Orwellian push continues.... More:

Orwellian love: "Sacrifice infants, not yourselves."

Orwellian freethought: "Those who disagree with us are thought-criminals."

Orwellian tolerance: "Agree with us or else."

Orwellian openness: "Open to anything but disagreement."

Orwellian compassion: "The old, the sick, & the unborn must die."

Of course I've incorporated these here:

  • I might add a "save posts" feature -- but I tell you what, posts that get a lot of up-votes will be easier to find, because I will definitely be adding a "Top Posts" feature, where the posts are displayed in order from Most popular --> Least popular.
