Here's a little tidbit for you. Way back in 1982, Good Ole Ronnie Reagan named April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Of course, over the past 30 years the idea has taken on a life of its own. Almost every state has some form of Family Violence Prevention Council that is supported by your hard earned tax dollars. These people co-ordinate with social workers, school teachers, doctors, nurses, daycare workers, etc, to identify children "at risk."
All over states this month, your local Family Violence Resource Center will be keeping you up to date and informed so you, too, can become "aware" of the various forms of abuse children face every day.
Catholic parents might want to keep themselves in check because, whether we know it or not, we are verbally abusing our children.
Here's a flyer put out by our local Family Violence Prevention Council:

Once, when I was 13, I went to school with a fat lip. My father had confronted me regarding my inventiveness. I responded to him merely in a courageous, honest, expressive, power seeking manner. Clearly, he did not value my charisma or natural leadership abilities.
Oh, the things I might have accomplished if he had only this information from the Family Violence Prevention Council.
Just saying.....
