And yet, logically, there is as much chance of surviving a fall from my balcony as there is from falling from 1,700ft, and I'm not frightened of going out onto my balcony!

The chap knows what he is doing, but I certainly wouldn't want his job!

I was very impressed that a guy could make himself do a job like that.

And yes, it would be terrifying to be up that high. The look of the ground is similar to the view from an airplane! I wonder if the air is thinner up there? Also, the winds would be much stronger.

Yes it's impressive, but unfortunately that sort of willingness to take risks is something that has always been exploited by cynical people. Which is why I wouldn't praise it too much. Someone has to do the job. Does it have to be done that way? There must be a safer way to do it.

I had a friend who was a lineman. Very dangerous. But he made lots of money. When he got called in on days off or for emergencies, he made over $40/ hr. He had lots of frightening on the job stories that I didn't particularly enjoy hearing. Made me worry.
