Title: Can you Still Save Souls in Purgatory If You're in a State of Mortal Sin?
Post by: SaintsSoaring on December 30, 2017, 01:42:57 AM
Hello,

Can you still save Poor Souls in Purgatory if you're in a state of mortal sin?
Meaning, if you say, "May the Souls of the Faithfully departed, through the Mercy of God, Rest in Peace, Amen." prayer in a state of mortal sin, will you still be able to help the Poor Souls?

Thank you!

No, you can’t. You can’t save the souls in purgatory at all. They are already saved.

By saving souls,I meant helping to alleviate their suffering and bring them closer to entering Heaven. I am sorry,I should have clarified.

The nun's taught us that if we were in a state of mortal sin the only way we could help the souls in purgatory was to have a priest offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for them.
The poor souls would receive the benefit of the Mass BUT WE WOULD NOT receive credit, so to speak, for that act of charity.
