I am very interested in neighbourhoods where it is normal to say hello to random people in the street. Definitely not London. Definitely not most UK cities. Shop assistants yes, or at bus stops if you’re both waiting but not random people.if I did that I’d get either a few stalkers if my own or others thinking I am a psycho….🙃😊🤣Maybe more ok in America??
I live in a more or less rural area, and in my neighborhood and bordering neighborhoods, you not only greet fellow walkers, but you wave hello to all the cars! I love it!
But even when I lived in NYC I struck up convos with strangers. Obviously you don't meet and greet while walking the streets, but in stores, museums, etc, I always act friendly. However, as the lady in the other thread mentioned, I also have a very keen sense of danger. I know who to speak to and who to ignore. Thus far my intuition has been good. I think I'd be dead today if I had not ignored and kept walking down 2nd Avenue, when a certain man seemingly innocently cat called me. I took a barrel load of obscene abuse from him as I kept walking. I thought I was going to get a knife in the back, as it seemed he was not only yelling at me but following. But I kept walking without looking back. Not looking back and not running away were what I had to do, but it went against nature. Biggest strain and creep out of my life.
