That's true, but spending is subject to minimums outside of your control.  Energy, food prices, communications, water and sewerage, education costs, medical insurance, are things you cannot realistically avoid.  It's also nearly impossible to raise a large Catholic family without a car, or how do you get the brood to mass?  So add the payments or depreciation plus servicing and gasoline costs.  If Dad uses the car to commute to work and mom wants to go grocery shopping, then you're looking at running two cars.  Otherwise mom is stuck in the home all day.

If you earn the minimum you have little opportunity to cut your spending and no opportunity to save and you are heavily dependent on your monthly check.  If a better paid but slightly riskier job opportunity comes along and you have no savings buffer you might simply not be able to re-locate.  That means missing out on opportunities and failing to take calculated and worthwhile risks because the downside is unacceptably painful.

As a singleton you can stop paying rent and move back to Mom's basement, but as a father of four you almost certainly cannot.  You have to make the rent or mortgage every month come hell or high water, and that is one reason why it is better for younger adults to get out there are take risks while they are young and single and can afford the downside and can learn something valuable; even from negative experiences.

This is a huge advantage of the wealthy.  They have the disposable income to take risks and they calculate those risks and spread their investments around so that they win more than they lose.  They also keep the best investments for themselves.  No ordinary person got Google shares at the opening issue price when they went public.  Or any other PSO.  All those shares went to prime brokers and were sold to their buddies to make an instant profit.  By the time Joe Schmo gets them they are the issue price plus 40%

  • Kids are a better investment.

All these "ideals" and "lottery" of life are not Catholic. If you're called to have a family and dirt poor with NO money, you still follow God's Will.

All you have there are EXCUSES. Work of evil if you ask me. Good new Trad family, who will stay together, have lots of good children, no no, can't have that. You need x amount in the bank and a job and a car and a house and an education... Who's really SAYING all that? God, nope.

So the "responsible" money type people then do what? Get older, fornicate, use contraception maybe abortion because they can't "afford a baby at the wrong time."

So if you see a good Trad couple hoping to get married (assuming its all on the level) and they throw all these but but buts up you HAVE to set them straight. The other path is selfishness, pain and sin.

    As for the rest...

Stocks crash, markets are manipulated. There is no FREE market of supply and demand based on economics around the world. Is people at the top pulling strings to shuffle debt, print more money.

Now all this "smart and better than thou" wealthy people were holding a bunch of worthless bonds, stocks and real estate just 4 years ago. Remember all the bank stocks? They were in the dollar bin. Auto industry? Bankrupt gone, only one to make it was Ford and stock was $1.

If we didn't have an influx of QE, quantum easing aka money printing, we wouldn't have a stock market, would've been game over circa spring 2009.

The economy and stock market are NOT connected. At this wacky point in history, stocks are at nominal highs while employment plummets (more people leaving workforce). Fed feeds the system $85Billion a month which can only go into asset classes. This cannot cross over into the REAL economy with such things as lending to small businesses or infrastructure projects and such otherwise we would see hyperinflation. No this money is all cordoned off so to speak.

Always invest yourself in God first.

  • Please God, let's have none of the repulsive, anti-Catholic, shylockian hymns of praise to the Usurer Class (and the concomitant contempt for the poor) that flourished in the bad old days at FE...
