  • I got this e-mail forward -- very interesting! I can vouch for a lot of what he says, especially the part about hose attachments being cheaper at a local mom & pop hardware store, and being Made in USA to boot. I've seen this for many other items.

    Made in the USA -
       Very Encouraging

READ ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM! LOTS OF GOOD INFO
       HERE!

Costco sells Goodyear wiper blades for almost half the
price that you will pay on the outside and they are made
    in the U.S.A. Read
       and do the following.

Unfortunately our politicians and top CEO's (GE
etc) have pushed for trade to China and Mexico for years
    so Americans are now
out of work. Did You know that there is no electric coffee
    maker made in the
US and that The only kitchen appliances made in the US is
    Viking?

I DIDN'T KNOW HALLMARK CARDS WERE MADE IN  CHINA ! That is also why I
don't buy cards at Hallmark anymore, They are Made in
    China and are more
       expensive!
I buy them at Dollar Tree - 50 cents each and made in
       USA
Check the number of items for sale by The Dollar Tree that are made in America.  You will be pleasantly surprised.

I have Been looking at the blenders available on the
    Internet.
Kitchen Aid is MADE IN The  US . Top of my list
       already...

Yesterday I was in Wal Mart looking for a wastebasket. I
       found some made
in  China for $6.99. I didn't want to pay that much
    so
I asked the lady if they had any others. She took me to
    another department And
they had some at $2.50 made in  USA . They are just
    as good. Same As a
kitchen rug I needed. I had to look, but I found some made
    in the  USA -
what a concept! - and they were $3.00 cheaper.

    We are being brainwashed
to believe that everything that comes from China and
    Mexico is cheaper. Not
       so.

I was in Lowe's the other day and just out of curiosity,
    I looked
At the hose attachments. They were all made in China . The
    next day I
       was
In Ace Hardware and just for the heck of it I checked the
    hose
attachments there. They were made in  USA
    ..

    Start looking,
people . . ....In our current economic situation, every
    Little thing
    We buy
or do affects someone else - most often, their
    job.

    My grandson likes
Hershey's candy. I noticed, though, that it is Now
    Marked "made in
        Mexico ." I don't buy it anymore.

    My favorite toothpaste Colgate
is made in  Mexico .. now I have switched to
    Crest.

    You have to
       read the labels on everything.

This past weekend I was at Kroger . . .
I needed 60W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets I was in
    the light bulb
aisle, And right next to the GE brand I
Normally buy -- was an off-brand
labeled, "Everyday Value." I picked up both
types of bulbs and compared them:
they were the same except for the price . . . the GE bulbs
    cost more than the
Everyday Value Brand, but the thing that surprised me the
    most was the GE was
       Made in MEXICO
And the Everyday Value brand was made in - you guessed it.
the  USA at a company in Cleveland , Ohio .

    It's way past time to
start finding and buying products you use Every Day that
    are made right
       here.

So, on to the next Aisle: Bounce Dryer Sheets... Yep, you
    guessed
it, Bounce cost more money and is made in Canada . The
    Everyday Value Brand
cost Less, and was MADE IN THE  USA ! I did laundry
    yesterday AND the
dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have
    been using for years,
       at almost half the price.

MY CHALLENGE TO YOU IS to start reading the
labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you
    can find that is
made in the USA .  The job you save may be your own
    or your
       neighbor's!

If you accept the challenge, pass this on to OTHERS in your
address Book so we can ALL start buying American, one
    light bulb at a
       time!
Stop buying from overseas companies - you're sending the
    jobs there.

(We should have awakened a decade ago....)

    Let's get with the
program and help our fellow Americans
keep their jobs and create more jobs
       here in the USA ..

    I passed this on .. .. . will you???

    If you care
about American workers, you will pass it
    on.
    Want to say "thank you"?

  • I used to try to buy American--I previously would not have considered buying a foreign car.  But I am not so into buying American anymore.  I see buying American as supporting the labor unions which were largely responsible for putting Obama in office.

If you do not buy American you destroy the value of the dollar and hurt the American worker. Besides if one supports Big Business one supports the GOP, who are largely responsible for the foreign policy mess these days.

  • The value of the dollar has far more to do with the fact that America convinced the Arabs to only accept dollars for oil, thus making it the world's reserve currency, than any balance of trade issues.

If oil was traded freely and priced in each currency the demand for dollars would drop and the value of the dollar with it.

When a nation refuses to make things anymore it leads to a destruction of that nation's currency because of a loss of revenue. Not only that but free trade leads to a destruction of factories, loss of jobs, and loss of livelihood for the workers of that nation.

Trade between nations is not some benevolent global world bartering like the liberals believe in but a combat of sorts between nations to see which one will emerge victorious.

    What about the Chinese worker?

If there was a very Catholic country where 95 percent of the population went to Church and they had kept the old mass, outlawed abortion and divorce etc,; would you buy their products or still put the American worker first?

Free trade has worked well for China.  It did not destroy their factories, lose them jobs or reduce their standard of living.

    Maybe the problem lies elsewhere?

I am not worried about everyone everywhere at all times, which leads to internationalism but simply nationalism. The global market you are speaking of emerged from the ideas of highly anti-nationalist and anti-religious liberals of the 1700's and 1800's.

You however only care about the bottom line and your god, money, and care nothing for your own nation and race.

Ha China does not practice free trade! They practice the economic theory of Freidrich List built on autocracy, mercantilism, repression, etc. It seems you have been in the economics department of the universities for too long.

The US do make things.  All sorts of things.

    They made Google.  And eBay.

They just make less domestic appliances.

  • So what?

France doesn't make its own search engine either.  Neither does Britain.  We use an American one called Google that pays very few taxes over here and lots of corp tax in the US so you are exporting advertising and taking British jobs in that particular case.

We also don't have our own Internet auction site.  We use a US one.

That said, I have never bought American cheese, nor am I likely to.  I bought 50 dollars of candies recently to bring home for my kids and they were such horrible garbage I had to throw them away.  Just sugar and E numbers and they tasted disgusting.  I would sooner eat Russian chocolate.

If you cannot make clothes and televisions cheaply and efficiently so that people want to buy them then make something else.  We don't all have to make our own stuff.  Just make something useful that people want to buy.

Who had ever heard of Australian wine 50 years ago?  The concept was so silly that Monty Python made a comedy sketch from it.  Now they make some of the best wine in the world.

    Things change. Deal with it.

    USA made jeans.

    Want a nice amplifier?

US made TV.  Not particularly good though, when compared to the better Chinese made ones.

I won't bother with the defence equipment because you know you are wrong on that.

  • Us British used to do a roaring trade with the Chinese in opium.

    Didn't last though.
