Buying a Home - CMRI Communities for a Growing Family

  • Hello all,

I am currently looking to purchase a home for my growing family, but I am struggling to find areas where:

    1) House prices are on the more affordable end ($300k - $450k)
    2) The lot is at least 1 acre
    3) There is a CMRI parish within ~30 min
    4) There is a bigger city within 45min or closer for quality of life
    * I work remotely so job availability is not a particular concern

I know that there are many in this forum who themselves, or whose friends and family, have homes near CMRI parishes. I am looking for suggestions on where I should look! Right now, my eyes are set on Ohio, since there are four chapels there, and homes come with lots of land at a good price. That being said, Ohio seems like the easy choice, and I do not want to overlook any burgeoning -- though, perhaps, not as well known -- communities which seem to have a great future with lots of young families.

    Thank you!
    Pray for me

  • Ohio may be a good choice. I attend the Sacred Heart Chapel in Mountain View, Ar. We have families that have moved here from all over the Country.

It is rural though. Little Rock is 2 hours away. We drive 1.5 hrs to get to Mass. We have a really good Priest and a growing community and we will move closer to Mass if we can work it out and if its God's will.

  • Spokane, Washington or Cour d'Alene, Idaho may worth looking at, with Mount St. Michaels in Spokane and a chapel in Rathdrum, Idaho.

  • Phoenix. Our Lady of the Sun in El, Mirage is 45 min from Phoenix. Homes are in Peoria, Youngstown  (maybe) I don't know the area, El Mirage is fine.  School with 5 nuns.  Our Lady of the Rosary, no school, in Glendale area and closer to Phoenix (no you don't want to be nearer to Phoenix.  Homes in Peoria are in your price range and El Mirage also.

You might look at Most Holy Rosary chapel (CMRI) in Middleville, Mi.  This area is very nice with lakes, farms and small town charm and I think home prices are reasonable. The chapel has a small school where Father and two nuns teach.  Grand Rapids, is just north.

  • The cmri seem to be very good at setting up schools with little resources. I wish the sspx would learn from them. I emailed the priest at the cmri chapel in Louisiana asking about school plans. He said nothing definite currently which was surprising.  Seems like all they would need is to send a few nuns down there. Why would they have a school in Alabama but not in Louisiana which has more Catholics.
