  • My name is Buddy Shepherd, and I live in Phoenix AZ.  I joined the Church almost 20 years ago while living in Southern CA at St Mary’s-by-the-Sea as a result of attending the  traditional Latin Mass when the late Fr Daniel Johnson was pastor

I was attending Our Lady of Sorrows (the SSPX chapel here) on a regular basis until the Resistance started.  Unfortunately, that group meets very rarely here now

  • Thank you and all others for your welcome.

No, that is not Mission Maria Stella Maris in San Pedro.  St. Mary’s-by-the-Sea is located in Huntington Beach which is 25 miles SW along Pacific Coast Highway (PCH).

I remember Fr. Johnson at St. Mary's-by-the Sea in Huntington Beach
in the 1980's. It was Monsignor Donahue in San Pedro that came from
Arcadia every Sunday and Holyday. I also attended the Mass at the
Garden Grove Community Center in the 1980's.
I been away from that area now for many years, and it has been
over 20 years since that I thought of it.

Unfortunately, we would've never met.  I joined the Church in 1996.

so how do like the new church ?

Father said he wanted a clean uncluttered look  that is exactly what he got.
no statues. no stained glass. no color and the stations of the cross 20 feet up and out of the way
