  • I had accuмulated certain books over the years that I would not want anyone to have because of if they contain errors or are immodest in any way. Would it be better to burn them or simply throw them in the trash? I am reluctant to throw them in the trash since I don't want to risk someone ending up with any of them that way still. If I was to burn them, where could I do that? Would it also be sinful if I was sell some of my religous books at a place like Half Price Books or anywhere else? Thank you.

  • Actually, we had a book series that we burned in our brush pile in our back field.  But I don't live in a city which I presume you do.  You could just throw one book a week into the trash along with your kitchen waste--few people would take a book from that.

  • When I converted I had a lot of bad books and when I was choosing which books were bad I was probably scrupulous so I got rid of some books that others would not object to. I just threw them in the trash and did not burn them. It would have been better to burn them but I wasn't really able to burn so many books so I just threw them away. I refused to sell them because I figured if they would be sinful to read it must be wrong to profit from selling sinful books.
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

  • I have composted books, not so bad for global warming as burning.  :farmer:

  • If you can, burn them. If you can't burn them, try to make them unreadable before you throw them away by ripping up some of the pages, scribble on the pages with thick marker or paint or squeeze some glue in the pages.

  • Would it be alright to sell good religious books though?

Of course,  what could possibly be objectionable about passing on such material.

Books have value and you have every right to be paid accordingly.

Used motor oil is a serious deterrent, and a lot cheaper than glue.

I was thinking along these lines. In a bag with raw chicken scraps should do the trick.
