This topic with your picture is being discussed over at CAF, just thought you'd like to know.  I find it interesting that most people over there don't find much offensive about this.  It's a sign to me that most modern American Catholics are completely ignorant regarding Halloween.  I was one of those people, too, until I started doing my own research about it.  Last year, we decided to pull away from "celebrating" Halloween as traditional Americans.  We have intentionally been trying to wean our children from all the garbage we have allowed into their lives.  

Last year, we had a family party where we bobbed for apple and played musical chairs.  We made an "ancestor" cake--where we picked the favorite cake of one of our deceased parents or grandparents--and later we said a Rosary for all the souls in purgatory.  This year I'm thinking about making soul-cakes.  

I want to focus more on the souls in purgatory this year.  We began homeschool and our 4th grader has really developed a interest in purgatory.  

Since this is our first year attending SSPX, I wasn't aware that our chapel has an annual All Souls/Saints Day Celebration.  We are planning to attend that as well, but our baby is due around that time.

Secretly, I'm praying for her to be born on Oct 31/Nov 1.

What we have always done for Halloween is dress up as a saint or Catholic hero and still go trick-or-treating (a custom of Irish Catholic origin). We try and go to the All Saints Day celebrations when we can.

This year Im hoping to celebrate Dia de los Muertos (Mexican All Souls Day) in a traditional manner as opposed to the modern celebration.

Mount St. Michaels also has a Souls, Saints Day Celebration and instead of a haunted house they have a Purgatory house which is the highlight of the Celebration, I have never been through it myself but heard it is very scary.
