  • They do a great job with Carol of the Bells and O Holy Night (I haven't listened to anything else yet).

If a festive Irish song about Christmas can't raise the spirits in a room, that room has no hope :)

    A Newfie song:

    They're Irish.

It is my personal opinion that the Irish (in general) were gifted with a great musical and lyrical talent. And I admit I'm biased :)

I like all the references to "Off to Midnight Mass we go", and how "Father John, before he's gone, will bless the house and all..."

I can see how WASP Americans often got Irish and Catholic mixed up :)

I love the regular version of "The Holly and the Ivy". Listen to the whole thing -- I was turned off at first by the different melody (since I love the original so much) but after one listen I now appreciate this Irish, tragic, deep interpretation of the song.

It's typical Irish -- sad, deep, melancholic. Thinking of how the holly and the Ivy remind us not just of Jesus' birth, but of His bitter passion and death (the crown of thorns, the gall he tasted on the Cross, the blood he shed, etc.)

So now I love this version.

Of course that does not take away from the quality of their music!  It is beautiful.

  • Lorenna Mckinnett is Canadian as well, from Winterpeg if I remember correctly...

See we Canadians do contribute more than natural resources, we have given the world a lot of great singers and comedians as well.

Thank you very much for sharing these, Matthew.  They're wonderful!

I've only heard their Carol of the Bells and Christmas in Killarney, and I had to type this message -- its great stuff, no question.

I have some friends who have Irish music every weekend for their children, and everyone plays an instrument.  They have great weekends!  Keeps the kids out of trouble and makes a home a place of refuge from the cruel world.

And it builds a Catholic culture, at the same time.

  • .

I know -- this image is too large, but I don't know how to make it smaller on CI.

It shows up a lot smaller on other sites and then it looks pretty good..........
