Men with beards are never put in a position to "prove they're a man" through whatever physical means.  People just take it for granted and don't mess with them.

So, that's why I have avoided brawls all these years.  I thought it was my natural charm, striking good looks, and deep humility.

Growing a beard also saves time and money on razor blades.

A pronounced chin and a strong jaw is a sign of strength and authority. The importance of having a strong jaw is well docuмented throughout history. Most leaders were expected to have this feature.  For obvious reasons,  George Washington was sensitive about portraits that drew attention to his jaw. The beard  makes all faces equal because it can hide a weaker jaw.

Except you can't see how strong your leader's jaw is when it's covered up by a beard -- and many more cultures went for "beards" than "strong jaws".

The two are mutually exclusive.

Given the fact that the Gillette corporation was founded in the last 100 years, I'm guessing more cultures went for beards.

I'm sure those who can't grow beards emphasize some other feature to determine masculinity or strength, such as jawline, height, complexion, etc.

Besides, I fail to see how a "weak jaw" is relevant to anything (including masculinity, leadership ability, etc.), unless that person also happens to have a weak beard *grin*

I mean, a full beard is an indicator of healthy testosterone level. Testosterone is the font of all things masculine. So there's some science to back it up.

And all beards aren't equal -- don't worry  One can't hide anything.

Maybe the men in this thread should post a picture of themselves and their beards?  It's time to show it off!
