  • Is it morally permissible for them to exist?

  • The brother of Pope Pius X ran a tavern. Probably a wine and beer kind of thing w/ food. MO is that bars are basically a waste of time.

  • Id say no.

Interesting way to posit a question but is sin morally permissible? I'm no semantics experts, but I would say sin is divinely permissible due to God creating free will and thus sin has some method to exist, if you can describe it as having a quality of "existence" to begin with.

Bars and taverns are [cliche but true] stewing grounds for sin, lewd behavior, and debauchery. Where has anyone converted to God while IN a bar or tavern....maybe afterwards once in a near-death drunken experience but probably never AT the bar itself while "having a good time with your friends getting wasted".

  • Pretty much all bars out there are immoral and sinful. Full of drinking, immodesty, fighting, blasphemy, gambling, etc. I agree with PIO, I would also say no.

  • You know, SS, you have a sound mind if you think that way too.

Would be cool if all of us mid-20s and younger guys could get together and hang out. especially on a Friday or Saturday night. I'd definitely hang out with you.

  • The vast majority of all of these things are not morally permissible. The immodesty and lack of Christian sense is what makes it this way.

It could be morally permissible if the modern world were not so immodest, imprudent and ignorant.
For those who I have unjustly offended, please forgive me. Please disregard my posts where I lacked charity and you will see that I am actually a very nice person. Disregard my opinions on "NFP", "Baptism of Desire/Blood" and the changes made to the sacra

  • That would be awesome, especially considering I've never met another Traditional Catholic in person before. What state do you live in, PIO? I'm from Georgia.

  • Cool PIO, we don't live too far away from each other. I guess we will have to stick to online interactions for now, but if you ever drive to Georgia for whatever reason let me know. ;)

I'm also still a young'n, trying to get an online degree.

  • Depends on the bar.  As I recall, there was a discussion of taverns in the book "Christian Father(written over 100 years ago).  Having a drink in a tavern was not in itself sinful.

So I would say a corner tavern with a male bartender is probably ok.

  • I think it's an exaggeration to say that all bars, pubs, and clubs are sinful. We've actually got quite a few respectable bars down here where you can drink without expecting any wild behavior to occur.

  • The holy Apostle St. Paul instructed Timothy to drink wine for the sake of his stomach ailments.

The same Sacred Scriptures also command us not to become drunken.

Excess is the sin, drunkenness is the sin, immorality is the sin, the existence of the tavern is not.

The problem is that, like the NO organization, where bad theology and indifferent, lax spirituality go hand in hand, so, too, does the tavern usually combine alcohol with spiritually deadly environment, music, associations and habits.

Better to stay away if at all possible.

A restaurant that serves alcohol is NOT the same as a BAR that serves food, which is often sub-standard and only there to keep the drinkers from going elsewhere to eat.

Besides, if one does not drink (or drink to excess), one does not need to frequent places where people are assumed to do just that.

Jesus, purest, sinless Lamb of God, have mercy on us.
This evil of heresy spreads itself. The doctrines of godliness are overturned; the rules of the Church are in confusion; the ambition of the unprincipled seizes upon places of authority; and the chief seat [the Papacy] is now openly proposed as a rewar

  • Drinking in itself is not sinful though if we drink in an environment which will lead us to drink too much or to be in bad or immodest company than it most certainly can be sinful.

Pubs are places where people generally go only to drink and that is probably not a good thing. Alcohol should be drunk in good company and in moderation and it is best drunk with food.

There are probably not going to be guys at your local pub who will tell you to stop if you feel a little drunk. They will most likely encourage you to drink more.

Though I would not say it was sinful to go to a decent bar or pub in good company.
