  • It seems to me, especially within the past couple decades, that the longterm effects of the Frankfort school,
social media, and modern society in general have created such mental conformity that I only have to glance
at someone to have a very good idea of what their views are on nearly every issue. This can be reflected in manner of dress, comportment, and even physiognomy.
It's almost as if people want to mold themselves into certain archetypes that the social engineers have sought to create.
We even have new terms in our language that immediately identify these categories of people:
    Sally Soccer Mom
    Gym Bro
    Joe Six Pack
    ghetto mama
    strong independent woman/feminist
    meth head
    etc.

Each of these terms conjures up mental images of people whom we have all encountered over and over and over.
My father used to say that God must love such people because he sure created a lot of them!
It nonetheless disturbs and saddens me that people have become so damned predictable and boring.

  • I think to a point it's always been like this ... depending on which "class" of society you belonged to.  In fact, I submit there's more variety now because in times past people were governed by social norms to stay within various acceptable constraints, whereas now you just decide what you want to be (you self-create) and if whatever you came up with resonates with other people, then they glom onto it as well.

In the 1980s you jocks, nerds ... then you had the goth types evolve, etc.

These every-changing types of "identities" come about from people who are ever "searching" for meaning, having rejected what God had put in place for them.

  • The movie 'The Breakfast Club' came out when I was in high school and it listed all the main stereotypes of the time.  For myself I'd say these things have always been around but, like slang words that come and go, the titles might change.  (In case one isn't already aware, the movie is junk)
