  • From NPR Bad Vibrations: Investigating Sound As Terror

I found this very interesting as there was another thread recently with someone asking about what type of music (secular) people here like. In this article, NPR interviewed this man:

"Steve Goodman... the head of Hyperdub, a London-based record label that has released work by avant-garde electronic artists... Goodman isn't your average label executive. He's a scholar, a lecturer at the University of East London.."

In it, it describes the true power of music for harm and terror. Its quite fascinating how these people recognize the power of music as an instrument. Through his studies, Goodman primarily focuses on music as an actual physical weapon. Its mentioned how some of the released prisoners in Guantanamo Bay went on the record as saying the auditory torture was the worst of all.

Of course I was waiting in vain for them to discuss how secular music has a subtle evil effect on people. Goodman stated, "I'm very aware of the fact that sound — and music — doesn't always create enjoyment and pleasure.."

I believe that those who listen to secular music, and think its fine should listen to this and see if you can apply it to the music you listen to and see what a powerful tool music can be for Satan... Its not easy letting go of the music you're used to, but once you realize what it can do to you spiritually, you don't listen to it in the same ways..

Actually I do. I get moderately intense "flashbacks" with certain songs and remembering what I was doing (usually something sinful) from my pre-conversion days. Its haunting, really. Similar to the other thread going on about dreams and pornography, music affects your memory just as much if not more than something visual. It is so engrained in me that I cannot remove it by my own action alone.

For instance, if I was viewing something and enjoyed the sin I committed while doing it, I would not remember it as much when viewing that "something" at a later date. Versus listening to a certain song that just "vibes" with you while the sins are being committed. I wonder if that explanation made any sense...same goes for scent, not so much for tactile senses though.
