  • Arthur Vermeersch, S.J.

Mithrandylan has this quote in his signature:

    Quote
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

Any evidence that Fr. Vermeersche ever wrote against the Jws? I'm not impressed with the thoughtfulness of what I've read about Vermeersch. Though perhaps someone can tell me something about Fr. Vermeersche that will make me trust him.

Thoughtfulness is Mr. Rogers, a creepy crypto-jw. Ken Burns, another jw. Mr. Rogers even talked in that baby-voice in real life. It wasn't a character. It was him. Sniper in Vietnam. What a jw weirdo.

Hobbledehoy is a former member of this forum who posted nothing but scans of religious works. Many thought that this was evidence of his holiness. I didn't fall for that schtick. It didn't shock me when Hobbledehoy had some sort of breakdown.

Mithrandylan reminds me of Hobbledehoy. Steering clear of any subject matter that would expose them. Sticking close to their camouflage of thoughtfulness.

All ears if any of you can find me anything Fr. Vermeersch wrote against the jws.

  • Mithrandylan is a good guy. I've seen a glimpse of his work, and I hope there is much more like it. Is he perfect? Probably no more than the rest of us.

Not every priest needs to make it their life's mission to preach against the jws. It is useful information people should be made aware of, but doesn't help much in the way of teaching souls to be holy. Satan is behind the jws, it is sufficient to preach against Satan.
"Be you therefore perfect, as also your heavenly Father is perfect."
"Seek first the kingdom of Heaven..."

  • No he's not a good guy. He's a snake in the grass. It's extremely easy to cultivate an air of high-mindedness on the internet, which he does, and which fools some.

He was one of the moderators on ABLF 1.0 and TeDeum. He threw me under the bus on ABLF 1.0 when the entire forum ganged up on me for starting two threads about female hair length and sex-segregated forums. He could have come to my defense. He didn't. He had no problem with the judaizing outbreak. He later didn't defend me on TeDeum when I drew the ire of the judaized lunatic VoxPopulis. He's buddy-buddy with the claimed jwish convert 2vermont, who attacked me on TeDeum for being critical of jws. She has never apologized to me. She also never offers Catholics any information about jws, which is also true of jaynek. They never share with us anything of interest about jws, a subject that would be of deep interest to them were they genuine converts.

He was completely smitten with Fisheaters until the tranny promotion, even though I had outed VoxClamantis a year or so earlier. Not that she even needed to be outed. That forum reeked of crypto-judaism the first time I encountered it. The outing was for the benefit of other people, not that it mattered.

"Not every priest needs to make it their life's mission to preach against the jws."

Duh. True. In fact I can't think of any priest who has made such a thing their life's mission. Still in reading about Vermeersch I haven't been able to find anything that is critical of jws. Perhaps someone else will find something.

You're a lightweight. You should stick to the classical music thread.

  • Perhaps Father Leonard Feeney had dedicated a good part of his priesthood to warning Catholics of Jєωιѕн treachery and their threat to the Faith.

    The Point

"Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will trample it underfoot and deny it. Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days Our Lord Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor but a destroyer."  St. Francis of Assisi

To the bolded, true. But he discussed lots of other topics.

I just use the jw litmus test because it's the best way I know how to size people up. I have lots of other interests, but when I'm on a forum that allows criticism of jws I take advantage of such a wonderful freedom.

It's a testament to the power of jws that one needs to search the internet far and wide to find places that allow criticism of jws. Most places would ban me in a heartbeat for even mild criticism of the jws.

BTW I think I may have been mislead about Fred Rogers being a sniper. I heard years ago that he was a sniper in Vietnam. But I think I bought into an urban legend, unless someone has other information. I still think he was a creep.

  • No one has any information about Fr. Vermeersch, S.J. concerning jws?

It's interesting that Mithrandylan would quote this particular man. He must like Fr. Vermeersch's other writings. I'm just curious if Fr. Vermeersch ever spoke against the jws, instead of speaking against things it took no guts or imagination or Catholicity to speak against.

Rum, if you want to know more about Father Vermeersch, perhaps try reading his most famous book at least as far as I am aware (the one from which I am guessing that Mithrandylan got his quote).

Tx for the link. I downloaded this tome and have been skimming. There's no way I'm going to read this book linearly. Fr. Vermeersch is a total bore, like Mithrandylan. It's funny that Mithrandylan chooses to quote a relative non-entity such as Fr. Vermeersch. It's very fitting.

I'll post later with comments about the book.

In the meantime Fr. Feeney always mocked the very word "Tolerance":

    Quote
This Christmas, there are many gods being proposed to the Catholics of America. They are gods with names like Tolerance and Brotherhood, and to fail to worship them has become, in effect, a crime before men. Invoking Saint Anastasia, The Point prays this Christmas for those who will be guilty of the crime, and who will insist, publicly and persistently, that the Christ Child of Christmas is the only True God, and that His Virgin Mother is that same Mother of God who, when our last Christmas is finally behind us, will stand unique and singular as the one Gate of Heaven.

    Quote
In 1615, King Louis XIII bolstered the “Jew laws” of France by forbidding the Christians, under pain of death and confiscation, to shelter Jews or even to converse with them. Between 1649 and 1882, the Russian government issued over a thousand distinct anti-Jєωιѕн measures, The first Jews who arrived in what was to be the United States were asked to leave by Peter Stuyvesant at New Amsterdam; and even Lord Baltimore’s Catholic colony of Maryland, famed for its “tolerance,” would not grant citizenship to Jews. Indeed, it was not until 1826 that Jews in Maryland were given full “emancipation” by the state legislature; while in nearby North Carolina comparable recognition did not come until after the War Between the States.

    Quote
There is no doubt but that the temptation to seek the approval and respect of non-Catholic Americans is a potent one; and the Church here seems to have succuмbed to it. The only condition that has been asked for this approval is that the Church play down those challenging, disturbing dogmas that set it apart from all other religions, and substitute for them the inoffensive slogans of Interfaith. As evidence of the American clergy’s willingness to do this, here is a statement by Archbishop Cushing of Boston:

“There must be an end of feuding over religious dogmas and a resurgence of tolerance and magnanimity. We cannot any longer afford the luxury of fighting one another over doctrines concerning the next world …”

However much this kind of statement might increase the Archbishop’s popularity, however much it might win him applause from Interfaithers, it is clearly a denial of that Catholic Faith which, as a bishop, he is pledged to preserve, even to the shedding of his blood.

BTW Bishop Cushing's sister married a jw.

    Quote
On billboards, on bus and subway posters, in newspapers and magazines, through radio and television broadcasts, Americans are being assured and reassured, both subtly and boldly, that “Bigotry is fascism … Only Brotherhood can save our nation … We must be tolerant of all!”

The long-range effects of this campaign are even now evident. It is producing the “spineless citizen”: the man who has no cultural sensibilities; who is incapable of indignation; whose sole mental activity is merely an extension of what he reads in the newspaper or sees on the television screen; who faces moral disaster in his neighborhood, political disaster in his country, and an impending world catastrophe with a blank and smiling countenance. He has only understanding for the enemies of his country. He has nothing but kind sentiments for those who would destroy his home and family. He has an earnest sympathy for anyone who would obliterate his faith. He is universally tolerant. He is totally unprejudiced. If he has any principles, he keeps them well concealed, lest in advocating them he should seem to indicate that contrary principles might be inferior. He is, to the extent of his abilities, exactly like the next citizen, who, he trusts, is trying to be exactly like him: a faceless, characterless putty-man.

    https://fatherfeeney.wordpress.com/2009/08/22/the-point-january-1955/

    Quote
And for the legal enforcement of the Jews’ “tolerance” slogans, U. N. Covenant-treaties make clear provision that no religious utterances, ceremonies, or symbols shall discriminate against, or cause “mental harm” to, members of other religious groups. Already the Jews have indicated what they mean by this. Abundantly they have protested that Crucifixes, New Testaments, and public mentions of Jesus Christ are incitements to anti-semitism and slights to the Jєωιѕн community.
