Except that the subway bully @ 0:33 to 0:40 is the politically correct and therefore unreal version. We all know what that guy would really look like.

Yup. Note the Confederate flag on his chest. Totally unrealistic.

While I (as with others) disagree with the use of a Confederate flag to "mark" the bully in the subway scene, the short film actually is otherwise a pretty good distillation of the modern world: superficial, self-centered, technology obsessed, hedonistic, and above all disconnected from reality. Like day-to-day events, emotions are either out of control, resulting in chaos, or weirdly absent, resulting in numbed machine-like entities devoid of true charity. There are no true relationships between the people in the world portrayed, even between parents and children. See the tiny scene at 1:43 where two new parents are so obsessed with a selfie of themselves that their new baby is just crawling away alone and bewildered from the hospital crib...

The stark 20's/30's-styled black and white animation style really works well for this. And that final scene with cell phone users all finally walking unknowingly into an abyss is almost a symbolic damnation...
