  • I am sometimes concerned about the condition of my relatives souls; until I begin to think, they might not want to do what it takes to get to heaven. Most of my relatives appear to have made their choice, and, outside of them finally accepting God's grace, most of my relatives will have been shown to have chosen hell. Am I being too cynical? I believe, even as I pray for my relatives, most of them are going to Hell.

After our lives and the lives of our relatives are over, will we know which of us are spending eternity in heaven and  which of us are spending eternity in hell?

I believe, those of us who make it to heaven will not be concerned about our relatives who went to hell. God will have made it even clearer to all of us that everyone is in hell through their own fault.

  • I also believe most of my relatives are going to hell. I have some hope for my grandmother who is a Byzantine Rite Catholic, but the rest of my relatives are Novus Ordo (except for one aunt and uncle and their children who are Russian "Orthodox"). I am the only traditional Catholic in the family. My parents and aunts and uncles all grew up before Vatican II so I believe they were taught the true faith, but after Vatican II they went along with the changes and my aunt converted to "Orthodoxy" because she married a Russian. I was never taught the faith in my youth, but had to search for it in my adulthood on the internet as I was trying to find out what was wrong with the world. And here I am the only traditional Catholic in my family. I believe there is a chance that I am in a state of grace and I hope I am because I go to communion, but I cannot say that for any of my relatives because none of them as far as I know (except for maybe my grandmother) have the faith.
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

  • I also believe as you do, and, I believe, because we are the remnant, much, very much is asked of us.  Because we know better, we must pray ever so much more like Our Lady told Francisco who wanted to know if he would get to heaven.  Our Lady said, "You must pray many, many rosaries!"  And how old was he?  Very Young!

  • I don't know about most of my relatives. All I know is that my mother when she was murdered, according to the man who mutilated her body, her last words in this life were, "Jesus loves you."

poche, sorry for the loss of your mother.  However, your loss is Heaven's gain.

I may have the True Faith but perhaps my place in hell is worse than the place of my non-Catholic family?

Wow, you have a great attitude! Maybe you all should get your selves some hope and start doing more praying and penance for them. What a defeatist attitude. Offer your relatives to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

  • I think some of you come across as self-righteous and have a defeatist attitude. Maybe YOU will be held responsible because you did not pray and do penance enough for your relatives.

Maybe you should take the plank out of your own eye. I understand where you are coming from, because I am tempted with the same thoughts. But we must do all we can for them, like consecrating them to Mary, and leave the rest to God. We cannot have a defeatist attitude. I am sorry to come across this way, but it is disheartening to hear such things.

  • I would also recommend Garigou Lagrange's (yeah I butchered his name) book entitled the Four Last things, or something to that effect. He has a more optimistic view than some others. And no, please don't think I believe everyone is going to Heaven.

Don't you know that I pray for them every day and I hope they will convert but so far none of them are interested in tradition. At best they are lukewarm Novus Ordites. I am only being realistic when I say that I am afraid they will go to hell. Did all of those saints have a defeatest attitude when they preached on the fewness of the saved and that the majority of those who die will be damned. Would you rebuke them also and say they should pray for sinners and do penance as if they were not doing all of that already.
