Author Topic: Are the Indulgences in the Raccolta still valid (Read 2656 times)

I was told by an FSSP Priest (French), that the indulgences mentioned in the Raccolta are no longer applicable.
That Indulgences have been done away with.

Can someone explain to me what he means and if they know if he is correct?
At first I just ignored what he said and just pray that the indulgences are applicable, but now am doubtful. HELP!

I guess the Novus Ordo doesn't want anyone to shorten their time in purgatory. Oh wait, that's not it. The Novus Ordo no longer believes in purgatory so they see no use for indulgences.

"I was afraid lest, by making the Raccolta too bulky, I should prevent some from using it so frequently as they otherwise would, as very often occurs with books intended for daily use. This is the reason also why you will find that in mentioning the grant, brief, or rescript, I have left out the words “for ever,” since, in order to obviate the necessity of this constant repetition, it is enough for you to be told once for all, that all Indulgences in the present Raccolta were granted by the goodness of Sovereign Pontiffs for ever

The Raccolta was replaced by the Enchiridion Indulgentiarum, first published in 1968.

Repeal seems only to apply to certain indulgences granted to specific churches, religious orders and organisations. Otherwise, the indulgences in the Raccolta remain valid, for as the Bull states at the close:

"We will that these statutes and prescriptions of ours be established now and remain in force for the future notwithstanding, if it is necessary so to state, the constitutions and apostolic directives published by our predecessors" - POPE PAUL VI - INDULGENTIARUM DOCTRINA - 1967

Then I CAN say the prayers with full confidence of earning the indulgences attached to them in the book?

I cannot believe he goes around spouting such information.

He could have just said IDK, or "I will have to find out for you", but noooo, he said my prayers do not have any indulgences attached to them, they are done merely for devotional purposes, and not to merit time off from purgatory.

Thank God I just ignored him and I refused to believe what he said.

To holysoulsacademy,

You would do a goodly work if you presented/posted this information to the priest. Priests aren't perfect and there is much confusion today. We should always see things for the best.
