  • I believe most if not all are straight up idolatrous, because most - if not all - say things like "I can't go on/live/exist/be/survive/etc. without you" and excessive and exaggerated things like that.

If it is a male who sings, he puts the woman like the greatest thing ever and like a god and his only reason to be and exist. I think women are less excessive than men in this.

I know most today are of course straight up immoral and pure lust, but i am referring mainly to the "old songs" like the ones from the 60's and 70's etc.

What was the Church's stance on so-called pop music before Vatican 2?

  • I needed this to jog my memory:

    http://www.allmusic.com/album/40-years-of-jukebox-hits-the-50s-60s-70s-80s-mw0000216422

So now that it's jogged, I can't agree with you, Pepele. My memory of the 60's was good clean fun. My favourite album which I played at the party for my 15th birthday was Buddy Holly. Now I'm not saying these singers were good role models but we were innocent and fun-loving.

I can't answer your question, though maybe somebody else can.
(by that I mean the question in your post, not in the title. The answer to the question in the title is NO.)
Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

  • Normally bad. The passions they work up are the wrong ones, at the wrong time.
    Sincerely,

Such songs may be bad, but not for the reason you mentioned.  It's called hyperbole, and is certainly an acceptable literary device.

and THIS.  popular songs have no structure and no methodology, especially when compared to music of the Baroque period or Gregorian chant

  • What Joe agreed above
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.
